The west sell weapons to Muslim countries but when it comes to war winning weapons then they are restricted. These days BVR, AESA are a must, other wise 220 F16 could become useless in a war.

One good move Egyptian army has done is they are buying Russian weapons in order to balance their power, so what the west wont give, they can get it from Russia.

Alot of people think usa sponsored the coup in Egypt but they forget that it was under the USA pressure Hosni Mubarak resigned, and then Egypt had to hold elections, the new MB government recieved alot of money from the Gulf countries until MB started to make their own decisions, like increasing relation with Turkey and Iran.

Iran has developed its own version of American Phoenix Aim54 called Fakour and Sejjil with range of 20-40-60-80-100-120-140-160 and 180 KM. Homemade BVR missiles for F14 fleet. When the new ramjet powered BVR air2air gets unveiled, Iranian airforce will have best A2/AD in the Region and on par with Western BVR capability.

This ramjet will be able to have a range of almost 250 to 300 KM,tho on the Paper. Realistically it will remain at 180 KM Range of Tomcat's Long range radar. Ramjet powered missile will undoubtedly need AWACS data to reach max range. Not to mention that IRGC has some plans to develop an airborne AWACS. Time will tell

sir i think its unfair to blame sisi for AMRAAM and F-16 deals .first he is from army not airforce 2nd deals start on 1982 when sisi was lieutenant in army . its air-force's fault . egypt should refuse on first step to USA and say we will got full package . do you remember what zia said to USA on F-16 deal . he said that f-5 deal is peanut we need f-16 .

i myself believe that USA agreed to sale us 506 AIM-120 when they see we already have 500 SD-10 .its my strong believe when you have power then USA just give up and sale . only way he can got weapons is Russia and he is doing it ,

Turkey actually produced many of Egypt's F-16s, but that is a good question. I guess the US would allow passive upgrades e.g. AESA radar, EW, Mission computer etc.
