What's new

Economy to grow 7.25 per cent.

I think in 5 years Bangladesh will overtake Pakistan-

Wel pakistani GDP is growing as well so i think with next decade you might catch up if GDP is sustained at 7%
According to estimate pakistani economy will grow by 5.2 % whereas bangladeshi economy by 7.2% so assuming growth rate remains same then you can do a year on year calculation easily
For Bangladesh
2017= 1389
2018= 1489
2019= 1596
2020= 1711
2021= 1834

For Pakistan

2017= 1573.792
2018= 1655.629
2019= 1741.722
2020= 1832.291
2021= 1927.571

This is merely an assumption based on current GDP figures.

You are calculating per capita basis- Growth is given for nominal overall-

. . .
neither of which is hapening atm

Who said we need it to happen now? We are doing fine militarily, with a decent well-maintained force. As for scientific development, economy isnt the primary driving force. Universities, research groups/incentives, favorable policies are few that are.

BD is a development-focused nation, and will be so for years to come.

.We don't receive much foreign aid or investment, we also don't get tourism money.But our economic planning are the more secured and stable one.We already seeing the benefit and hope this trend will accelerate further.

This is exactly why the future outlook is positive. Indigenous development is extremely important. Though it means forgoing short term recognition and benefits, it will only strengthen self-sufficiency in the years to come.

However, we need to boost up our tourism which can be a significant provider of jobs and revenues. Before that, need to get the crime rates under control.

Our Per capita this year is $1466. Can someone clarify when we will be able to
overtake Pakistan if current rate of Growth remains in a stable course in both the countries?

According to most estimates our GDP (nominal) for 2016 will be just over $1500, while pakistan's GDP (nominal) for 2016 will be just over $1550. We are short of about $50 give or take, and with predicted growth rate for both countries Bangladesh should overtake sometime 2018/2019.

WE have 49 dollar gap now. 1515 for PK and 1466 for BD. Yes it suppose to overtake this year.
There is strong possibility that PK rupees will go down in near future as their export nose dived and it might fall as low as 18 billion dollar this year.

.
Per capita is also extracted from nominal so same growth rate can be used

Anyways my calculation are an approximate
We are two poor nations in this vast world. Let not compete with each other. There are many nations to compete and to look up.

All the best to Pakistan and India and all other South Asian Country. If we keep developing we will definitely overtake the west. And maybe with cooperation with each other we can create a South Asian union like EU.

I think PPP per capita is more important.

Pakistan $ 5000
BD $ 3800

That's a big gap.

Per capita of Pakistan was US1,449.978 dollars in 2015 according to IMF. It would still be slightly above Bangladesh this year still. I would expect BD to surpass Pakistan next year in 2017.

For 2015 Pakistan had an income of $1513 and PPP per capita of $ 5000 . Nominal doesn't give you a clear picture thats why PPP is the accurate way to see standard of living in a country.

PPP is not as objective as nominal.
There is no logical reason for BD currency to be over-valued with respect to either India's
or Pakistan's.

For 2016 the PPP values are:

Pakistan $5,360
Bangladesh $4,150

But don't worry even in terms of PPP, we will catch up very very soon. In other areas we have now overtaken you, exports $37bn vs $30bn, in reserves $32bn vs $23bn, public debt thats over 60% of GDP as against just 23% for Bangladesh, 4.5% GDP growth vs 7.5% for Bangladesh etc......But thats not good enough, we want to expand our economy fast as possible.

PK export 18bln this year. PK has strong remittance of 20 bln+ whereas BD has close to 15bln

Yeah, but cut them some slack....they are in a period of civil strife.
PK seriously need to integrate with SAARC. They are holding Afhganistan with them as well. It could had been a huge economic and geographical block if we all could work together. They need to let go Kashmir for their own good rather work positively so that the border become irrelevant.

Our economy is not export dependant . We have a military budget of $ 8-10 Billion with undisclosed sum on nuclear weopons. That means we have less money available to us for other things. Despite that we are ahead in most economic indicators like GDP per capita , Household median income , Stock exchange returns . Pakistan got upgraded to MCSI emerging market while BD is still a frontier market. Our stock exchange is currently in top 5 in the world in terms of performance.

Pak -India rivalry is holding Saarc back.
