What's new

earphones and headphones

I've got 2 Audio Technica headphones. Of course I've got the widely popular ATH-m50 (considered the best headphone on the market for under 200 dollars) and I've also got the ATH-WS99 model. The WS99 has 2 drivers on each side so it's very bass heavy. I bought it for electronic/dance music and it does a good job, but I hate the cable. It's got a really cheap cable for a ~300 dollar pair of headphones.

My next pair is gonna be a Bowers & Wilkins P7. It's fucking gorgeous and I don't even care about the sound quality tbh. If I didn't have 2 pairs already I'd def'n grab it right now. It's pricy at 400 dollars, but man it's a thing of beauty.

I was about to say that all the Turbine models (especially the golds) are very bass heavy. A lot of people like that, Not so much for me. I ended up getting the Miles Davis tribute Jazz Turbines and they had a much more balanced sound.

actually i got coppers on black friday sale through my canadian cousin for just 110$ .
too much good a deal to pass.

in india they cost rs 24000 i.e approx 400$,lol
granted they are available for 270$ at amazon but impost tax is 30% making it 360$:woot:

Okay, read this and decide if you want to use ear-phones or not.

Wow, you really did get a good deal. I originally got my coppers for $200 USD, but that was a few years ago. The Miles Davis turbines are currently going for almost $500 on Amazon, but I managed to snag them for about $250. Congratz on your great deal.

Also thinking of selling my gently used (and much loved) Philips Fidelio X1s so wish me luck!!

You don't need an amp for the m50 man. It could probably benefit from an amp, but you really don't need one. I still remember the first time I put that thing over my ears. I used to be an in ear headphone guy, but the m-50 was a game changer for me.

Not all over the ear full sized headphones need amps. A lot of them come with different impedance versions. The m-50 has a relatively low impedance so you don't need an amp to power it. Other headphones on the market have both low impedance versions and higher impedance ones of the same headphone for people who want to use amps.

What's the impedance on those things? You need an amp to run it no?

I remember I was looking at one of those a long time ago. Can't remember why I didn't buy it. Instead I got the ATH-WS99.

either way i have a clip+ that can power m50 easily but would drain the battery severely.
am planning on getting fiio x5 later this year

I've been using Fiio E07K portable amp/dac with my PC and Galaxy S3. Not high end, but I highly recommend if you don't have a lot of cash to spend.

lol no I honestly couldn't. By the way...I had said the E07K was a good amp/dac to buy for those not looking to spend a lot of cash. I didn't want to imply that it was cheap and low quality. It's a very good mid-range portable. Keyword being 'portable'

i know its very good man.
seriously, but then i don't want to carry 2 things seperately and looking for a holistic solution.

i still use a 40$ clip+ as i love portability and i cannot sacrifice that by carrying player and amp seperately.

btw ak240 costs about 2400$:rofl::rofl::sarcastic::sarcastic:

30 ohm and sound pretty good un amped. They also do benefit from quality amping though. They have the best low end response of any 'open can' I've ever owned. They are like having the best of an open and closed can, all in one.
