Rodrigo Duterte compares himself to Hitler and pledges to 'slaughter three million drug addicts'
Hitler massacred three million Jews... there's three million drug addicts. I'd be happy to slaughter them'
The Philippine President has likened his national crackdown on drug crime to the Holocaust, saying he would be "happy" to kill as many addicts as Hitler slaughtered Jews.

Rodrigo Duterte said he had been compared to a "cousin of Hitler" by critics during a press conference in southern Davao city on Friday. "Hitler massacred three million Jews... there's three million drug addicts. I'd be happy to slaughter them," he said.

At least six million Jews and other minority groups are known to have been killed by the Nazis before and during the second world war.

Since taking up office in June, Mr Duterte has overseen a vicious anti-drug campaign in which more than 3,000 suspected drug dealers and users are understood to have been killed by police operations or vigilantes. The bodies of those killed are often left in the streets with signs listing their crimes.

During his presidential campaign and short time in office Mr Duterte has threatened to drown drug suspects to fatten the fish in Manila Bay. He has also threatened to execute drug traffickers by hanging until their heads were severed from their bodies.

“You know my victims. I would like [them] to be all criminals to finish the problem of my country and save the next generation from perdition,” he said on Friday.

His comments have been described as "disgusting" and "baffling" by Jewish leaders, according to Reuters.

"Duterte owes the [Holocaust] victims an apology for his disgusting rhetoric," said Rabbi Abraham Cooper of the US-based Simon Wiesenthal Center.

The US-based Jewish group the Anti-Defamation League said the comments were "inappropriate and deeply offensive", adding: "It is baffling why any leader would want to model himself after such a monster."

Despite his shocking rhetoric, Mr Duterte remains popular in the Philippines, with high approval ratings and strong legislative support.

However, he has garnered a growing number of critics, including UN officials, the European Union and the United States, who have all voiced concern over the widespread killings and human rights violations.

He reacted on Friday, calling his EU critics a "group of idiots in the purest form", adding that European countries were hypocrites for not doing enough to help large numbers of refugees flee violence in the Middle East.

"There are migrants escaping from the Middle East. You allow them to rot and then you're worried about the deaths of about 1,000, 2,000, 3,000 [people in the Philippines]."

Earlier this month, Mr Duterte launched a scathing attack on US President Barack Obama, referring to him using a slang which translates, roughly, as “son of whore”.

When the European Parliament issued a statement condemning deaths in the country, Mr Duterte said, “F*** you” – and gave them the finger for good measure.

IMO, Duterte is being quoted out of context to make him look really bad.

Character assassination is happening to Duterte.

He is being demonized by the media.

President Duterte's "surrender or be mopped" policy to addicts is an ultimatum to them to change their ways.

He and most of us, are aware of the economic, cultural, and moral damage that illegal drugs have had in our country.

Anti-Semitism is the first sin in American politics, so it's not a surprise that attacks in character assassination starts there, though I don't think it'll have much effect in Philippine or in Asia in general. I recall CIA hired director and actors in trying to portrait Saddam as a child molester, only to find out that its doesn't have nearly the same ramification as it does in the US. Funny.

Speaking at a press conference to unveil his new cabinet on May 31 2016, Rodrigo Duterte said journalists killed on the job in the Philippines were often corrupt.

When comparing yourself to world leaders or historical figures, there are perhaps less controversial choices than Adolf Hitler.

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday likened himself to the Nazi leader, saying he wants to kill millions of drug addicts, just as Hitler killed Jews during the Holocaust.

"Hitler massacred 3 million Jews. Now there is 3 million, what is it, 3 million drug addicts (in the Philippines), there are," he said in a speech in his hometown of Davao City.

"I'd be happy to slaughter them. At least if Germany had Hitler, the Philippines would have (me). You know my victims, I would like (them) to be all criminals, to finish the problem of my country and save the next generation from perdition."

History counts the cost of Hitler's purges against "undesirables" at 11 million, 6 million of whom were Jews.

World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder, in Israel to attend the funeral of former Prime Minister Shimon Peres, condemned the remarks.

"These statements are revolting, and President Duterte must retract them and apologize," Lauder said. "We just marked the 75th anniversary of Babi Yar, the massacre of more than 33,000 Jews in Ukraine by Nazi Germany. ... Now, the elected leader of the Philippines openly calls for the mass murder of people who are addicted to drugs.
"Drug abuse is a serious issue. But what President Duterte said is not only profoundly inhumane, but it demonstrates an appalling disrespect for human life."
The controversial leader campaigned on a hard line against crime, particularly drug offenses, and has in the past uttered statements which have caused many in the international community to recoil.

Although he later denied the accusations, the former Davao City mayor admitted his links to the alleged Davao death squad in a May 2015 broadcast of his local television talk show.

An idiot will remain an idiot. if this is the level of leadership philipinos can elect, they need to have their national psyche checked.

The West, in particular US media is waging a propaganda war against Duterte in case you haven't noticed it yet.

The CIA probably won't kill him (not now at least) because he enjoys support from over 90% of the population. It would be a very stupid move to remove him even staging a coup won't work (see Erdogan). Duterte is actually smarter than you would think of him because he knows what the domestic issues are and that needed to be dealt with. He refuses to get caught in a dangerous game between US and China as he tries to gain favors from China. Despite of his recent outburst towards US, he isn't trying to severe ties with America but playing a balancing game instead. There's more than meets the eye ;)

Exactly. The US is on character assassination. And perhaps digging some links to corruption or nepotism like they falsely did with Hatoyama.

Now, an educated look at the drug issue and its socio-economic implications on the society (I just watched an RT documentary on this) would convince someone with half brain that drastic measures are needed if PH is to be a normal country.

Trump called Hillary and Obama founders of ISIS. To me, this is an equal sin to that of Hitler's crimes.

Now, why focus on a brutal man dead for decades now instead of digging the ISIS-US regime connections?

the best way to counter character assassination is keep on doing what you're doing but put it up one notch. When Trump made stupid statements the media was all awed. Now he can say whatever he want and it doesn't even make it to yahoo news

disgusting, at the highest level

Why put him down when your Widdodo president can't do shit compare to Duterte. All your president can do is beg China for money and even ask Jack Ma to be his economic advisor. Why? Because no one in indo can do the job.

because our president had brain and money to do the job properly and had meritocracy virtue and value people talents regardless their races and nationality, meanwhile Duterte can only spewing venomous words.

You are implying Duterte is dumb because he's trying to turn PH back into a sovereign country? What does the other Filipinos think? @Cossack25A1 @JayMandan

Exactly. After Trump called Hillary and Barack as founders of ISIS, the message went through. Nothing Trump says can't be as substantial.

Set the bar low, because your opponents will want to go lower.

Reagan did that with Gorbachev.

History repeats. Only difference is, the US is now on the receiving end.
