Dutch embrace 'herd immunity' as dire death warning prompts UK to change course

Unfortunately bad days are coming for UK
Netherlands should stop playing out as some “geniuses” and lock the country before it’s too late

Just imagine the outcry about morals and human rights if China had proposed that ...

Nevermind the aburdity when you look at the situation of countries that are or have been severly affected by it.

As a doctor, my preferred method would be an attenuated vaccine.
Since a vaccine is not available, herd immunity can be utilised for infections which don't have a high death rate. Sadly, none of the countries have an infrastructure to cope with mass hospitalisations.

(Of course, you won't try this for an Ebola or Meningitis outbreak.)

.
I think more important is to keep an eye on total the number of hospitalized cases among the infected cases, but no website is quoting the hospitalized numbers, they are just quoting total infected, total death and total recovered. But to gauge the extent of overloading of the medical facilities in a given city one must find out the number of medical beds and doctors/staff available in the hospitals of that city and number of infected patients knocking at these hospital doors.

UK has some extra time to reduce the final death toll.
8000 beds, 1200 ventilators along with fully qualified doctors and nurses are coming into the fight from the private sector.
Ventilators will within a week be mass produced.
Finally the percentage of elderly people in UK is lower than in Italy.

I think that the UK will cope better then Italy with that because the infrastructure is better, the funding is bigger and the medical staff is more skilled, lots of talented people working over there from all over the world but there will be some trouble for the Brits, certainly.

I also hope so.

UK has turned into a war economy now and both the public sector and private have one goal and that is to fight this virus.
Left and Right does not exist anymore and so country is united in the battle against corona.

Yeah, the problem is that the UK lost a couple of weeks now and thats going to be a "battle" now but it wont be another italy, im sure of that. The UK simply as a country is in a better position.

Hopefully UK can keep the death toll down to the low single-digit thousands as that is the best possible outcome now.
