Dubai: Cusp Technologies, a Dubai-based tech solutions company, has developed a new system for using magnetic beams in many applications specially in defense and space. One of its main applications is to repel hostile drone attacks. The innovative system is based on the use of advanced magnet technology to create a "magnetic shield" to repel hostile attacks from drones, which are either directed remotely, or have pre-programmed routes.

The technology also provides the potential to expand its defense capabilities and create a magnetic shield that can counter any kind of military attacks. “Drones widespread in the past few years, so the risks that these aircrafts pose have increased. This could cause damage to the main infrastructure, and paralyze both trade and travel in many countries,” said Mohamed Saleh, founder and chairman, Cusp Technologies.

He added that the company has conducted a recent study to develop technology and systems that enhance the capabilities of countering the attacks of these aircrafts. It concluded that magnetic beam techniques can be used in the applied and military fields, as these technologies are designed to protect certain areas, pointing out that the features of these technologies is the result of 5 years of research, and hard work.

He pointed out that the new technology proved very positive results in preventing drone attacks, with the possibility of expanding its capabilities and being useful in other fields such as space technology. Saleh confirmed that another research study is currently being conducted in cooperation with a specialized American company, in order to increase the effect of the magnetic beam to a range of up to 100 km.

The new technology is scheduled to be displayed on a special platform that will be launched during the "IDEX 2021" and” NAVDEX 2021”exhibitions, which will be held between February 21-25 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center. More than 60 countries are participating in the two exhibitions, with 1,300 companies. The events boost Abu Dhabi's international position and its ability to attract various countries to participate in one of the most important international events specialized in the defense industries , despite the circumstances and challenges imposed by the "Covid-19" pandemic worldwide.

This is pretty wild. I guess we've entered the world of Star Wars and Star Trek. One had the Deflector Shield and the other I forget what it was called but this certainly reminds me of it.

A bunch of beams that create a magnetic field that protects an asset from drones sounds amazing. Why just drones? Hopefully we learn a lot more about this as it's being developed and fielded. Sounds amazing and even more impressive is that it's being developed by an Arab country. Fantastic.

More likely they are hoping to scramble people's brains. Keep their workers good docile slaves. Arabs have a long history of slavery. Arab reversed and repeated Bar Bar a y, pirates. No wonder they allied with and were paid huge sums by the evil slaver Greeks (NY) and Texans.

There is just so much technologies left to be discovered on worldwide stage. If it is strong enough and re-strengthen could destroy other electronics such as jets and other systems. The world has also entered a technological boom since last decade. My prediction is for the next 20-30 years that the world would make an increase in tech advancement double folded as it did in the last 100 years

Yes, my point exactly. I guess it will eventually be able to protect against any type of attack. They mentioned drones because they've become quite commonly used in the last few years. But this part says:

"The technology also provides the potential to expand its defense capabilities and create a magnetic shield that can counter any kind of military attacks."

That seems like a tall order! If it's successful, this would change the battlefield quite drastically.

Extremely interesting - although its mode of operation is a little unclear and I don’t see a website or info page.

You can essentially create a large magnetic field that will scramble computing systems that enter that field - similar to a MRI’s affects on electronics near it. It could draw on the same principle(if it does) to create a field that throws ferromagnetic substances away rather than attract them(or have the field in such a way that it forms outside the generator.

I think that's one of the two largest challenges in creating something like this; being able to locate the magnetic field so that it doesn't affect its source or what it's designed to protect. Then you have to defend those features that create the magnetic field from being destroyed. So you basically have those two huge challenges to make this work and protect it.

I can imagine something like a pair of radar dishes with those arms that point to the center of the dish and they're positioned a few miles apart. Turn the switch on and the two dishes fire their respective magnetic beams that meet directly in the middle of that distance at a certain altitude above friendly assets. Once the two beams connect, the magnetic field is created between those two dishes. The more dishes you have, the more circular your magnetic field becomes. That's how I picture it in my layman view lol.

Then you need to position SAMs to effectively protect those dishes.

It could be on trucks and tanks if applied successfully

Can New ‘Magnetic Shield’ Stop Drone Attacks?

Cusp Technologies, a tech startup based in Dubai, is advertising a “magnetic shield” to defend against drone attacks and promises to display it at the IDEX 2021 defense trade show in Abu Dhabi in February. The new technology is advertised with an image of drones blowing up as they run into an invisible wall; it appears to be based on a new technique that projects magnetic fields. Is this the counter-drone solution that everyone is looking for?

I reached out to Cusp Technologies to find out more about how the magnetic shield works. After some initially positive responses, company founder Mohammed A. Saleh told us that he would not be able to provide any information.

“Things have got a little complicated since we have announced our invention on the news as it turned out the demand for such a product is very high and we have had governments and very high-level people reaching out for us, including competitors who are trying to get more details about the product,” Saleh said.

Cusp’s website gives a few hints about the new technology:

“It all began when our Founder, Eng. Mohammed A. Saleh, made the impossible and invented the magnetic beam by building an electromagnet that can project a magnetic flux over a distance.

It was a side project, and more of a dream, but with the grace of Allah, he was able to make it happen. His vast knowledge and experience in Architecture combined with his interest in magnets allowed him to achieve his goal of creating a directed-energy technology that has multiple applications in several fields, such as space and military.”

This sounds very much like someone without scientific background tinkering with magnets and making a breakthrough which has eluded the world’s research organizations

Many sites, from airports and sports stadia to nuclear power stations are rushing to get counter-drone defenses in place, with the global market worth perhaps $6bn a year by 2024. In this situation you can see why competitors want to copy new technology – and potential customers want to find out more before paying out. Hopefully, all will be revealed at IDEX next month when the magnetic shield goes on show.

Imagine that! lol, he's gonna be laughing all the way to the bank while dragging those bags of billions of billions of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!! Why don't these kind of things happen to us? Dammit!!
