The A330 with a DRDO AESA is as "homegrown" as the Embraer AWE&CS with a DRDO AESA.

The A330 is a big *** plane and there is definitely no dearth of space, and if it can be tested and inducted as expeditiously as the EMB-145 AWE&CS then what is there to complain about.

It can either just work as a refueler one day and AWACS the next.

Or to refuel the escorting fighters effectively guaranteeing longer airtime for the AWACS and the escorting fighters.

It probably won't have as much refueling capacity as a normal A330 refueler owing to the large AESA.

the point aircraft defending the AWACS can be refueled by the AWACS itself. since the entire group will be outside the range of enemy airspace, I believe that could be one of the roles for the short legged Indian LCA?
