DRDO issues tenders for Manufacturing of SFDR Ground Launcher
PublishedOctober 7, 2015 | Byadmin
SOURCE : IDRW NEWS NETWORK (INN)
DRDO has recently issued tender and has invited Bids to manufacture SFDR Ground Launchers, SFDR which stands for Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet Propulsion Technology was started in May 2013 with the objective of developing state-of-the-art SFDR propulsion technology, which can operate at varying altitudes and speeds. The development and demonstration of SFDR propulsion system is a joint venture of DRDO and Russia.
According to the Tender documents which idrw.org has gone through has specified SFDR Ground Launcher dimension to be 5300(L)X 1060(W)X2015 mm (L) which can articulate 60-degree in elevation for missile launch .
According to Defence Analyst Ranesh Rajan Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet Propulsion Technology is mostly used during the acceleration phase of Hypersonic missile which provides a significant increase in the missile average velocity when compared to conventional liquid fuel ramjets.
Rajan also explains that Ducted Ramjet Propulsion Technology is capable of producing higher thrust levels during acceleration phase due to higher maximum fuel flow rate which results into shorter acceleration time to hypersonic cruise conditions.
Launcher in question (above Pic ) might be used for experimental launches to test technology developed for Hyper-sonic BrahMos missile currently been developed by India and Russia .
