The Punjab government has decided to remove Dr Umar Saif as the chairman of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).

Talking to Dawn.com, Dr Saif confirmed that the government has approved a summary to replace him, however, no notification has been issued in this regard as yet.

"It is the prerogative of the government to appoint anyone they wish," he said.

"I have worked for the government for seven years. I hope they appoint someone who can take this forward."

Very sad development, shame on PTI government. This man is a star and a visionary in the field of IT. His work is appreciated across the world.

They'd better have a decent reason for this, otherwise they've lost my support. I wish the nation well but how will we see betterment when politics is getting in the way of success?!

PTI is one shameless party. Now they will bring some jahil tattu politician to replace him who will not know anything about IT.

I have worked for the government for seven years.
Seven years is long time to be in governments strategic management. Check out how long these posts are held typically in UK? 4/5 years and time to roll over. Or else it demoralizes others because promotions are blocked. Think of army COAS terms etc.

Institutions are bigger than individuals.

Excellent step...this guy played a role in the failure of the RTS and many other cyber-security breaches for a certain family

Do you have any evidence of that, or was it something you read on whatsapp?

That's true, but it's not like we have a load of talented people lined up. Besides surely someone like him can be moved upwards rather than being disposed of. Look at his CV and what he's done for IT in this country. IT exports going up 5 fold in the last 5 years is mainly this mans initiatives.

Your whole support was based on an IT whiz?

I mean Software Systems are recycled every six months and this guy had 7 years to get the requirement right yet the system crashed on its roll out.

Thats some british political sense right there for the People to feast their mind upon.

I had my money that your Sheikh would convince you

May I ask, he is related to you in anyway? because you attributed the efforts of thousands of institutions and 100's of 1000's graduate in IT to a single person that tells me either you have no freaking idea about how IT works or you have a bias.

I won't take self written Wiki pages too seriously.

Good for IT
May be but we need someone who is good for the country as well.

For all the guys who regard him as some IT genius should know all he did in past seven years was take open source software and mold them into something which could be used locally.
Most of his work is pretty basic and not some break through invention.

Now see how Noob's start defending him as the Elon Musk of Pakistan.

Do you know who have created RTS?
About security breaches, please share which one?

IT is the most democratic trade and anyone with a working brain, aptitude for learning, a half decent laptop and a working internet connection can learn and become an entrepreneur. The only giants in IT are the creators of the programming languages that succeeded like C/C++, Java, Python, Kotlin, Web Assembly, Rust etc or frameworks. I have the honour of meeting with quite a few of them and never found Dr Saif anywhere. He is a well qualified expert and no doubt about it but he did quite a few things that have raised eyebrows in country and believe me if Dr AQ was not indispensable then Dr Saif not even a mole worth to worry about you will find tens of thousands like him.

Sorry, I forgot to add a key ingredient...unlimited access to black coffee :)
