Watch out for sharp spikes if you are driving on the wrong side of the road.


Dhaka traffic police have introduced a new device to prevent vehicles from travelling in wrong direction.

Named ‘Protirodh’, the device has metal spikes that will retract if a vehicle runs in the right direction.

It was installed in front of the state guest house, Shugandha, on experimental basis on Friday.

“The spikes will puncture tyres immobilising vehicles travelling in the opposite direction,” Khan Mohammad Rezwan, Dhaka traffic Police’s Deputy Commissioner, told bdnews24.com.

He said they have plans to install the locally manufactured device on other city streets if it works perfectly.

Engineer Jahan Alam invented the device.
