Domestic brands' SUV sales surge

There is no other market more ideal than China for electric vehicles. For energy security (no more dependency on imported crude oil), pollution control, sheer size of market(double or even triple the size of US auto market in a decade), and tech development, all drive China to invest tremendous resources on the electric vehicle development.

It seems like there is an overall interest. I myself am an SUV fan because of its flexibility and appearance.

Domestic producers stepped up the effort and they seem to have been awarded by the consumer: When there is viable domestic option, people will opt for their national manufacturers.

Hopefully the quality drive will further expand from the SUV segment to middle and high-end passenger cars and China's manufacturers will end up with a healthy 75% market share at home.

Designed and developed by a team led by the established Volvo designer Peter Horbury, the Geely Emgrand Concept previews a sporty sedan - purportedly to go against the BMW 3-Series in China.

The concept itself is surprisingly good-looking and well-proportioned, with a clean, uncluttered shape. Chinese cars will eventually catch up in terms of design and engineering with the rest of the world and this is one of the first, early signs hands down.

The company says that the design was inspired by Shanghai’s skyscrapers and the West Lake Bridge in Geely’s hometown of Hangzhou but we still can see some similarities with other cars and concepts. Nevertheless this looks good to these eyes.

Rumours suggest that if the Emgrand concept ever reaches production, it would use a shared platform with Volvo and probably even reach Europe. It’s no secret after all that Geely wants to be taken seriously as car manufacturer on a global scale.




Going against BMW and Mercedes require more horse power in the engine along with interior luxury. Besides hybrids, most Chinese cars have small engines that do not produce a lot of horse power. I could be wrong but most Chinese car manufacturers still outsource the engine from Mitsubishi?

BMW cars with their M series have serious horses. What model of BMW is the Emgrand suppose to compete with?

Domestic auto industry gradually becomes mature now for many investors from IT field are get in touch with the auto, some of them start designing and manufacturing Internet cars.

For technology/know how/equipment,
Equipment - OK. Stamp robots check 中国一重 济南二机床, BIW robots 新松机器人 etc etc..
DIES - OK. check 天汽模
Engine - OK check those domestic main players.
GEAR BOX - OK for some domestic players. BYD, GEELY, CHERY OK, GW should strenthen their products.
CHASIS - OK but still need some more high performance vehicles to prove it.
ELECTRIC SYSTEM - NO problem.
Interior & Exterior - NO problem.
To be serious, The auto makers have gathered many experiences during recent 20 years and the parts company is also very mature now.

Currently, the only thing we need is Chinese auto brand and this is time comsuming.:enjoy:

Hopefully they'll turn it because the domestic auto industry with it's horrid Ancap crash test was the laughing stock of the world a decade ago. As I mentioned in my previous post, I said except for "hybrid cars.." the gas powered Chinese enignes have improved significantly but we'll see in the next two years.

Buddy, I served in the auto industry for years. Please trust me, engine is not a problem for domestic car makers.
Many auto makers have set up NCAP labs and most models' performance are not bad. see BYD.

I understand electric and hybrid cars are the future for the world and especially in China who want to be energy independent. BYD and other electric car makers are on the right track. Just like how the Japs used to make 4 cylinder cars and laughed by American car companies.

Yes, exactly. More important is that the domestic production power of batteries increase fast. BYD is a main player in this field.

Huge market produce various opportunities and speed. The next hot industry is civilian air transportation field.

"Cheap isn't in our vocabulary," says Chinese SUV brand seeking top spot in Australia

China's top-selling SUV brand says it will launch an assault on the Australia market from June –more than six months after it previously said it would -- and has long-term ambitions to be the nation's top-selling SUV brand.

Haval, the premium offshoot of Great Wall Motors, told motoring.com.au it will launch two models within two months here and five models before the end of this year.

According to Haval Motors Australia's chief marketing officer, Tim Smith, the brand also promises to change the reputation of Sino-built vehicles, which have long been regarded as cheap and cheerful.

"We don't understand what cheap means... Cheap isn't in our vocabulary," Smith told motoring.com.au from the Shanghai motor show just minutes before the official unveiling of two new prototype SUVs, the Concept B and the Concept R.

Haval has chosen Australia as one of its first export markets. Smith says the company will promote its vehicles locally as “luxurious 4WDs”, but it remains to be seen how effective the vehicles will be off-road.

The company has set up operations in the Melbourne suburb of Mt Waverley. Motoring.com.au understands it will also eventually take over distribution of the Great Wall brand, which is currently handled in Australia by Sydney-based independent distributor Ateco Automotive.

Smith says five Haval SUV models will be on sale in Australia via a network of dealerships by the end of 2015. He says dealership locations cannot be confirmed at this time, as the details remain “commercial in confidence”.

Haval started as a single Great Wall model. In servicing the burgeoning Chinese marketplace it has expanded to a range. The local line-up will target existing volume SUV segments.

"We've got the H2, H8 and H9 first, plus H6 and H6 Coupe launching in 2015," said Smith, adding that the small H2 "will be a strong seller".

Priced from the low-$20K mark and roughly the size of a Volkswagen Tiguan, the H2 kicks off Haval's Australian campaign.

"We'll have the H2 and H9 here [in Australia] from June 1 to launch the brand, followed by the H8 from July 1 and the H6 Coupe will come in December [2015]" he said.

The H9 is a seven-seater Toyota Prado-size SUV pitched at family buyers. It will "will start at mid-$40K", according to Smith. The five-seater H8 is similar in size to the Jeep Grand Cherokee and will be priced from around $40,000.

It's the "high-end premium models" that will help build the brand, says Smith. Particular emphasis is being placed on the potential of the H6 and its new H6 Coupe counterpart. Likely to slot into the medium SUV segment, the H6 models will share space with the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5 and Subaru Forester.

"I think the H6 Coupe will be a strong seller. It's probably in one of the most competitive segments," Smith said.

And the burning question – how much?

"It's still a long way off so I can't give you definitive pricing, but it'll be extremely competitive against most premium SUVs in its class," said Smith.

Smith promises the H6 Coupe will be fitted with high levels of standard equipment.

"Everything from dual-clutch transmissions, moonroofs, heated and cooled ventilated seats, massage chairs, blind-spot and parking assistants, fatigue monitoring, tyre-pressure monitoring, advanced intelligent headlights, rain sensors… It'll have every technological aid that you would see in much more expensive luxury cars," observed Smith.

Senior Great Wall executives speaking with Australian journalists at this week’s Shanghai show outlined the brand’s ambitious targets for the local operation.

Great Wall CEO, Wang Fengying, told industry journal GoAuto: “It will take time to achieve the goal, but the goal has been set.”

To become Australia's most popular SUV brand, Haval would have to out-sell the likes of Jeep, which last year sold more than 30,000 vehicles Down Under.

Ms Wang acknowledged the challenges Chinese products have faced Down Under, telling GoAuto: “We have nothing but our products… We will win the confidence of Australians with our products.”

Smith told motoring.com.au dealer plans were well advanced but wouldn't be drawn on the exact numbers of dealers signed on. He said when the Haval brand launches in June 2015, “customers nationwide will have access to the vehicles”.

"I can't go into too much detail because it's commercial in confidence," he said, adding: "We're looking to have national distribution networks, both east and west coast.”

Haval H6 series have already top domestic SUV market of B class SUV and H9 of C class SUV. Haval's product line is filled with figure 1 to 9. That is good.

That mean Haval's chasis platform technology is matured. But gear box need a breakthrough.
As Haval brand SUV soared. VW's Toureg price down... Prado price down ...:D:D:D

After tried BYD hybrid vehicles, I have been fans of BYD.:enjoy: Next target SONG.

Honestly, I never get why people want to drive SUV, if I were to drive SUV, I would have driven a truck.

SUV is not exactly sporty (Despite being called Sport Utilities Vehicle), they are quite slow, and hard to accelerate and the brakes are usually retarded due too the sheer weight of the article....

I simply don't get why people like SUV...

For me, you either go full on Jeep or go get a truck....

trade-off. (compact) SUVs usually have better fuel economy and interior design than trucks, and larger space than sedans, making them good for everyday urban use.

Have you noticed most modern cars from 2013+ look similar to one another? The X7 looks similar to LR but X7 makers are not being sued which means it's not a copy but similar. X7 are sold in other countries so if LR has a case they can take Jianglang motors to court.
