DOES THE JF-17’S MARKET POTENTIAL MATTER?

Make the rumors about block 3 happen ! Then anything else will be possible #
It is a catch 22 situation. One needs to keep the price down as most of JFT's potential buyers would consider costs as a major factor in acquisition. If the cost goes above 40-50 million per platform, it becomes unaffordable to most of its potential buyers. the second reason is what would be the expectations of a country like Nigeria or Myanmar? Do they actually need an AESA as a must?
I suspect Block 3 would be important form the PAFs perspective and also from the perspective of a few nations but most countries would be happy having a Block 2 with BVR capabilities. At least this is my reading into the situation.

Hi,

It is always about the haves and have nots----always about the shiny new toys with numerous gadgets---.

No one wants to be left behind in the race---ie---with lesser options---. Everyone wants their mainstream weapons to be the best and give the best bang for the buck.

A full fledged top tier equipped BLK3 may garner more proposals than the mid range Blk2---because of the inherent difference in prices with comparable aircraft.

I personally think that the JF 17 is sitting on top of an explosive market ready to make a decision in these coming 2 years----.

With a sqdrn of sales to Myanmar and 1/2 sqdrn to Sri Lanka---the JF 17 is ahead of the sales curve.

The problem that it will face in the next years is the number of orders and not enough facilities to produce them.

Prices could have been lower if the PLAAF had ordered around 200-300 aircraft (as was hoped earlier). This could have been crucial in reducing our per unit cost as well as those for export.

In the end, PAF has achieved its original objective of getting a fighter safe from sanctions and able to replace PAF's older aircraft.

But we also need to be looking ahead and anticipating the demands of coming years. What role would the Thunder be able to play in 2025-2035? Would the JF-17 be able to provide the minimum deterrence against our more powerful rival and their heavy, stealth aircraft? Can it provide the same technological know-how like what Tejas is providing to HAL esp wrt to engine development and aircraft design?

Hi,

So---this is an interesting quote that I read today----. So---regardless of poor marketing and strategy and a lack of two seater---JF17 's sales are going to spiral out of control within the next two years---.

It is basically very simple----there is nothing else out there for that price---that kind of weapons package and electronics package at all.

Pakistan just needed to fly thaty aircraft at the air shows---and just kept mum----not a word about selling it----.

Let the buyers demand it. They can still do that----do not talk about price and sales anymore----just show up at air show and do your displays and fly bys----and then watch the bear come searching for honey.
