and to the extension, Nepal, Bhudan, Sri Lanka?. Islam is an example of religious that have weight on Internatuonal relation. Does Bhuddhism count? Eg. Myanmar,Thailand, Lao,Cambodia, or other Mahayan coumtries.

@Tshering22 @SarthakGanguly can answer your question better.

But let me try my best

@somsak Honestly speaking India is officialy a 'secular' nation & our foreign policy is in line with our national interests, if anybody wants to be friends or greater relations with us, he is welcome to do so :) .
Also Buddhism is practiced by less than 1% of the population. But Buddhism & Hinduism belong to the same 'Dharmic' family of religions (Hindus are 78% of India). Many Buddhists reside in North-East India & a few Indian states

Hinduism & Buddhism aren't organized religions like Islam & Chrisitianity. But yes , many Indians feel that we have cultural links with Buddhist Dominated countries which we must encourage.

Yes if you want to step into a backward time travelling wormhole.

My father is a religious Bhuddhist. Right now he is chanting in fromt of Bhuddha statue.

most of the indians respect Buddhism and definitely would want to have good relationship with Buddhist countries .
Under the current modi govt Buddhism is reviving in india which was otherwise sidelined by the secular criminals of UPA .
We feel cultural ties with countries like sri lanka , myanmar , thailand and cambodia are of great importance for us because of the great heritage you people have got .

I don't know exactly what you are looking for, but my take on this issue is:

1) Traditionally, India has been the closest of partners/ allies of Buddhist Countries (Be it erstwhile Cambodia/Laos or Indo China, Burma, Thailand, Bhutan, etc.)

2) As Buddhism is an offshoot of Hinduism (almost 99 % of Hindus believe in Buddha and his teachings), we share many common heritage in terms of culture, languages, customs, etc. So, in a way, Hindus are not alien to Buddhism and its philosophies unlike to the other faiths like say Islam, Judaism, etc.

3) Thirdly, being a secular country ourselves, we have pretty good relations with almost all like minded countries, be it Isreal (Jews), Russia/ UK (Christianity), Malaysia/ UAE (Islamic), Bhutan/ Thailand (Buddhist). In fact, India has states like Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, etc. which are Buddhist Majority.

Buddhism is imo among the most rational and free of all the religions.I'm not alone, einstein agrees with me.:D
Main thing is it only gives u guidelines for spiritual inner peace, not how to live ur life or inflexible do's and don'ts based on scripture(unless u choose to be monk). This makes it very compatible with modern life.

Im looking for friendship with India. My father said friendship cannot be built when need. If you look at the map, Thailand and India is natural ally because it is the 3rd country
