Pakistan must not buy any new gunships. We have gunships and upgraded ones too .spending money as some reports said 500 mil. dollars would be a big loss and a step in wrong direction. Recent reports said that govt is planing to build Barrier on Durand line costing 14 billion rupees(140 mil dollars) instead army should spend another 60 to 70 mil. Dollars to make the barrier 101 % impregnable to inturders. Another issue for army army is lack of sophisticated ammu for para military forces. Army should purchase 1 lac new rifles like m4 which costs 1000 dollars for 100 million dollars. remaing money of the gunships should be spent on increasing huminit sigint and aerial intelligence of forces to effectively deal with this hidden and asymmetric enemy.Chinese have now sent armed drones to international military exercises where they precisely hit their targets and each UAV costing little more then 1 mil. Dollars while whole system costing five to six mil. Army should consider these birds as they can save money, cause less colletral damage allow us to follow targets and will be effective against time sensitive targets. our gunship dogma needs to die.), world of counter terrorism has changed a lot.

Pakistan is not building any impregnable barrier on Durand Line..it is but digging a ditch/trench which is 14 feet wide and 11 feet deep all along 2400 Km Pak- Afghan border..which itself is costing $140 million..all one needs is a medium sized ladder to get across(hardly impregnable).

India has erected an electrified fence along 2800 Km Indo-Pak border costing upwards of $ 3 Billion..It has reduced cross border infiltration by a great amount but even an electrified fence in not infallible.

We need gunships not FOR JUST TALIBUNS.... and useless and pointless post.... Making a trench to not buy gunships is like asking for nihari without boti...:man_in_love:

Develop a invisible laser wall to track infiltration.

For CT/COIN a C-130 spooky upgrade wouldn't be a bad option since it can stay on station for about 6 hours with more firepower on her disposal plus being prop-driven makes it relatively fuel efficient vis-a-vis jets. It can serve point support, point strike and supression/support fire to assist ground troops. In fact I feel PAF Could also look into adding gunship capability to stranger-12 than just FLIR because it delivered a complete package of monitoring and engaging the targets on station rather than losing time -which might be critical- in information pass on and engagement, a reason why UCAVs were developed from UAVs.

Just another waste of bandwith thread.

I was just about to write something similar. Totally agreed. People are too busy opening up threads and comparing apples to oranges!

Not a good option against Talibastards in the mountainous areas, which itself is one of the biggest challenges. UCAV's would be a much better asset than a C-130. UCAV's with NV and 4 missile each (Hellfire or similar), would cause a lot more damage than a C-130 can. C-130 gunship is a GREAT assets for close air support and for somewhat of a plain terrain.

For the mountainous area, helicopters and / or UCAV's are a much better option hands down. Hopefully the PA can kill all terrorists from this area soon and send these talibastards to hell once and for all. After that, these helicopters can be used elsewhere too.

Of course they would be but we're not getting them from US, that's what I assumed.
