PUSH (Press United to Serve Humanity) Condemns Brutal Torture by Bhawana Police
ISLAMABAD: Press United to Serve Humanity (PUSH), a Pakistan-based non-profit, non-government consortium of journalists working for the freedom of press and human rights, condemns the inhuman torture by Punjab police on persons accused of robbery.
According to the news published in Daily Express, Pakistan’s Urdu newspaper on March 03, 2010, the officials of Bhawana police station in Chiniot, Punjab had tortured in public five persons namely Riaz, Wajid Kumhar, Zeeshan Lohar and Sharif Lohar, who are accused of involvement in a robbery at rice truck. The eyewitnesses said the accused persons were stripped in the public and then tortured by Bhawana Police Station sub-inspector Obaidullah Kaliar and constables including Muhammed Afzal, Sajjad and Sarfraz brutally.
After the media took notice of the incident the Punjab government has ordered inquiry into the incident after suspension of few officials. However PUSH demands a proper justice to the victims and protection of their rights under UN universal declaration of Human Rights to which Pakistan is a signatory and bound to follow it in letter and spirit.
“The brutal torture of the accused by Bhawana police officials is violation of human rights Under the UN UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS, adopted and proclaimed by General Assembly
Resolution 217 A (III) of 10 December 1948.” PUSH said.
“Article 5 of the declaration clearly states that no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment while as per Article 7, all are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law. All are entitled to equal protection against any discrimination in violation of this Declaration and against any incitement to such discrimination.”
PUSH demands all rights to the accused persons, to which they are entitled under the above articles of UN declaration, besides PUSH also demands checks and balances system to discourage the law enforcement agencies from misusing their powers.

Its sad that such thing happend. But also we should know these thieves will not show any mercy if someone deny to give them there cell phone. I lost a good friend who refused to give his phone and wallet to mobile snatchers.
Police should not be doing this. But i have no sympathy for the thieves either.

The case is not closed. And NO just suspending the officials does not stop this kind of illegal torture by pathetic Pakistani police.
No impressive curb down by police, because if the case was not reported we might not had even seen the action against officials.
And one of the victims is missing. Means either police had hide him or God forbid killed him.

They are innocent untill proven guilty according to Pakistani constitution and UN Universal Human Rights declaration.
Besides it is reported that the victims were tortured because they have reported to Police high ups in Islamabad about such activities of local police,

of course they are innocent until proven guilty. and i am not supporting this act. If they are innocent they should be awarded with honor to beat the inspector the sameway he beat them.

This is common, not just in Pakistan but whole Indian subcontinent.
Pakistan Police should learn from Punjab Police. No matter What happens tension ni lene ka. The only thing they do is eat and sleep. Even Garfield was better.
