Dialogue with Opposition only if Biden sits with Trump: SHW

Long story short, Biden and company do not like Hasina - she herself proclaimed as such. Her propensity to oppress the opposition Indian style (using RAW advisers) is the main concern. Thousands of opposition (mainly BNP) activists have gone missing and/or turned up killed on the side of the road, subjects of encounter killings using the Rapid action battalion.

I think Biden's people will proceed to freeze whatever assets Hasina and her son/relatives funneled overseas (even the Gulf and S'pore), her son Joy's assets have reported to have been frozen already. Hasina's cabinet will all get sanctions and their children's student visas will get cancelled. This is big.

Visa cancellation doesn't just mean the US. It means all US allies will deny visas. Except maybe Russia and China (and of course mother India).

Regime change is expected to happen soon, the way the local US Ambassador (Peter Haas) is making the rounds of political leaders and the Chief elections commissioner. Unless Hasina agrees to turn over mantle to a caretaker govt. which seems unlikely. Which means regime change for sure using other means.

Indians have been asked to sit this one out by the US foreign affairs people.

The axe will fall at some point, but this is not like twenty years ago, when a coup-d'etat might happen easily using the army.

In the last two decades Hasina and the Indians have heavily greased the palms of the armed-services top brass, so that a chance of a coup may be lessened. They have also largely politicized the top and middle echelon of the administration including the law and order orgs, and the judiciary.

However if the US pulls out the trump card (canceling UN missions overseas which is a large income source for the army etc.) then things will change. @saif and @VikingRaider bhais I don't know if you can add anything further.

Uncle Sam ain’t saving BNP/Jamat 🤣

They want a pro Indian regime in BD.

US thinks Hasina is not pro Indian enough.

But Bangladeshis hate India and Hasina is the best US will get.

Suck it up!!

After giving transit to India at a nominal price, building a bridge over Feni river (Bangladesh's chicken neck) exclusively for Indian use, allowing Adani to rob Bangladesh, allowing India to withdraw water from Feni river, Kicking China out from Sonadia, and allowing India to use sea ports at a nominal fees, do you still believe that the US thinks Hasina is not pro-India enough?

Everything you said is true.

But US still thinks that’s not enough.

Defence alliance is what they want!

And giving preference to Indian “investments” over Chinese businesses.

E.g. US wanted Bangladesh to sell its stock exchange to India instead of China. They are still angry about that!!

No political party in Bangladesh will advance with the idea of creating defense partnership with India as our armed forces were created to protect Bangladesh from Indian aggression. Neither Awami League nor BNP will take the risk of creating bad blood between Bangladesh and China.
