Influx of huge population.
It can not be that reason as Karachi face much higher influx of population, we have large numbers of bangalis, beharis, bermies, afghans and many other foreign nationals living illegally in Karachi, further Karachi is hub of business so people from all over Pakistan love to come and work here, if any disaster hit Pakistan most people like to migrate to Karachi and still it is cheap to live here, as many said in Urdu "Karachi Ghareeb Parwar Shahar hai".
Why Dhaka is so expensive that is surprising, Mumbai or any Indian metropolitan city to me may got that place as their economy is rise fast and they are their business hubs.
More glaring is how Bombay and New Delhi have gone down drastically over a year.. And Dhaka getting more expensive.. Any reasons ??
Why are things so expensive in Dhaka?
I think its to do with lack of competition in Bangladesh, which is because the country is less developed now. Since there would be very few players in the the high end market as the size is small - from hotels to eatables, it would mean very high pricing.Probably because the five star hotels in Dhaka have the highest rates in South Asia, especially the international chain hotels.

India was also more expensive (vis-a-vis) others for high end goods(from houses to amenities), so was China. As the market starts growing, more players will enter - that means many dozens of 5 stars to high end condos and all. Consequently prices will down. They have in India.
Would you believe average hotel prices of 4 and 5 stars in China are still lesser than in India.
