Despite the IAF’s serious concerns over the prospective cost of the HTT-40 and recommendation that the project be shelved, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) is powering on with the programme. HAL is rushing to piece together the platform so as not to irk the IAF further.

In February, IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal N.A.K. Browne had said there was no need for the HTT-40. Two months later, HAL shows no sign that it is winding down the programme—instead it is reviving things up. Apart from an active competition for its turboprop engine, HAL has called for competitive bids for a number of systems including primary flight display units, integrated standby instrument system, angle of attack system, engine instrument and crew alert system, hydraulic utility packs, hydraulic pumps, total air temperature probe, air data probe, vapour cycle cooling system, emergency accumulator manifold. The IAF is poised to proceed with follow-on orders of Swiss-built Pilatus PC-7 MkII propeller trainers this year.

Top sources at HAL said the programme was “very much on track” and that there was no question of “scrapping it”. They also added that discussions were on with the IAF to make them come around to the view that the indigenous platform would be superior to the Swiss aircraft under induction.

hal is filled with idiots....

No, Never PC-7 MkII in1980's plane and HTT-40 is newer one. AF guys are always in love with imported items. india need to develop planes in india not to depend the imported one. it is good to develop these in india. comparing these two plane HTT is better one as it has more advanced avionics. the problem is with air force, the always want imported items. you can compare the cockpit of two plane, as the Htt has full glass cockpit with advanced electronics.

but , who will buy the plane when iaf is reluctant ? and by calling them idiots i meant they have to cncentrate more on producing the first block of lca tejas... after all these years they couldn't even establish a production line for production f tejas aircraft...

if HAL manage to impress IAF with its HTT's production model there is a chance. if IAF did not buy this plane then the experience and technology is useful for other projects. if the HTT is a good plane then the MoD will ask to IAF why they reject this plane as india is trying encouraging indigenous defence project and items.
Ijt is under development no news about it for a long time. i think IAF will buy that, but india is not in scarcity for advanced trainer.

IAF trolls HAL many times and its time HAL to troll IAF :chilli:

HAL is acting like a stubborn child, instead getting a realistic view of their issues and figuring them out.

IAF has rejected HTT 40 once because it's too late and most likely will be too costly, especially for IAF if they have to operate 2 different basic trainers without any commonality. Moreover, they made it public to increase the pressure on HAL, to fix the IJT problems, because IAF wants that trainer, but HAL doesn't get it done. So HAL should stop this nonsense and focus on IJT only, something the is needed for the sake of the country and not on something that's for their own sake.

HAL's ego costing the nation, just concentrate on the effing sitara intermediate trainer u idiots. Can't build things that we need, concentrating on things that we don't.Useless.

Dont blame hal alone. Blame the iaf planners also.

Have they ever thought of this in 1990s or 2000. Dont they have forsight to think about the need of basic trainer LONG BACK.

There was a proposal for LIFT hf39 i guess. They rejected it. One day they will rush in and say we want LIFT TOMORROW

HAL was in the run. But, the main rejection was the cost quoted was twice the cost of the P-7.

HAL is only good at assembling plane kits. They can't build anything on their own!
