A tribal man in Odisha’s Kalahandi district carried the body of his wife on his shoulders as the hospital authorities did not provide a mortuary van or an ambulance.

The incident occurred at the district headquarters hospital at Bhawanipatna where 42-year-old Amang Dei was being treated for tuberculosis and died, Odisha TV reported.

Despite all his efforts, Dei’s husband Dana Manjhi could not get any help from the hospital authorities. Thus, he wrapped his wife’s body in a cloth and started walking to his village Melghara in Rampur block, about 60 km from Bhawanipatna.

After walking for 10 kms he was given an ambulance. But that's just sad. My brother in law works in that area and I know how difficult it is to spare an ambulance there. Most others hospitals have two but some has only one ambulance.

Its so heart breaking that i wont even do my usual india bashing here...

What ever were circumstances ... this is just very sad

There is no humanity left in world and I agree with @Mrc instead of using this opportunity to bash India or calling her a fake supapowa or reminding her of her poverty we should genuinely be sorry for the plight of this man and many others like him.

@Dash Its good an ambulance was finally provided but looks he got it only after things went live on Media what about others who doesnt get same coverage .

The poor in the 3rd world have very little value even while alive (save for when elections come around)...so, it is not surprising, when push came to shove, little dignity was shown in death.

Glad to know he eventually provided with an ambulance.

:(

See, that's just a hospital in a village. Let me tell you that even district headquarters don't have adequate medical facilities.
The situation in these villages is real bad. The plight of a person even if he has money is scarsity of facilities.

Can u imagine people who need dialisis die waiting in queue before they get it.

It's naxal affected too.

Instead the title should be " DEAD SYSTEM forces odisha tribal to carry dead wife for 10 km".

Odisha is one of the poorest state of India but these types are blot on human dignity. And as usual either the system turns a blind eye or wake up after events gets highlighted.

BTW odisha CM launched "Mahaparayan Scheme” to carry Dead Bodies.
