Demand: Kalabagh dam should be included in budget 2018-19

LAHORE: Kalabagh dam should not be ignored in the federal budget 2018-19 at any cost as water scarcity is heading towards the point of no return, said Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Malik Tahir Javaid in a statement issued on Wednesday.

“Those opposing the Kalabagh Dam are unaware of the ground realities,” added Javaid. “How can a mega water project be harmful for an agrarian country?”

The LCCI president said 1 million acre feet of water gives benefit valued at $2 billion annually to the economy, while Pakistan is throwing away 35 million acre feet of water by delaying construction of the dam. This means that we are wasting $70 billion a year, which is almost equal to the country’s external debt, Javaid added.

Pakistan needs to divide the provinces into smaller ones. Ideally three to five provinces from each current one.

A severe house cleaning is needed in Pakistan. Without this cleaning up it there isn't much hope.

Prioritize projects based on two merits:
1) Required for national security.
2) Would be nice to have.

The first priority projects should be insulated from any political debates etc. If it is feasible, full steam ahead, if it isn't, look at other options.

The second priority projects should be left to 'elected' administrations to take on.

But before doing all of the above, hang all corrupt politicians, jail all their families, and confiscate all their properties and of those people that supported their activities and the second and third tier levels.

Also keep a list of all those elements that opposed the Kalabagh Project.

A sea wall should be constructed at coastal zone , and then Kala Bagh dam should be initiated

In Areas where water could creep upwards into mainland due to reduced River water strength falling into ocean, some engineering would be needed to keep certain level of water flow to maintain wild life

I don't think the Sea Turtle would be effected as the beaches will remain same

The mangroves forest is a natural habitat and I am sure with some thinking a smart way can be attained to allow certain amount of sea water/river water to sustain the mangroves

i have said this since 2011, kalabagh dam is nothing but an excuse for politicians not to build dams... otherwise what is stopping them to build half a dozen dams like akhori, bhasha and so many others...

i have said this since 2011, kalabagh dam is nothing but an excuse for politicians not to build dams... otherwise what is stopping them to build half a dozen dams like akhori, bhasha and so many others...

democracy means many views, in USA even neo nazis come out, doesnt mean nazis control anything, just because PTM have few 100s-1000s followers means nothing, as far as foreign media coverage, its biased because there is lots of money making in negative news on pakistan, there is huge 1.5 billion self orgasmic indian population, who forget 1000s dying in militancy india and worried about few 1000s PTM protestors

dam issue is straight forward, WAPDA comes up with a financing plan and govt throws it in the basket because obviously partially the dam will be funded by public funds, govt wants 100% foreign funding for dam which was possible in tarbela extention and dasu (due to overly generous WB) but obviously not in major dams

now same plan which it threw in basket for last 5 years is passed because PML N govt is eneded, and next govt has to pay for it, whom will throw it back in basket

remeber 50 billion(required amount/per year for bhasha) is not even 5% of DEVELOPMENTAL FUND

the benefits of Kala bagh dam are much more and bigger than any other dam, only the enemies of Pakistan including our own parties don't want it to be built ... it should be priority number 1.. other dam can be built later.. Army should intervene and build it.. only they can stop these enemies and save too much water being lost to ocean..
