So weight of Shtil-1 is 581 kg which is double of Barak 8 but with superior range ..i.e.,50 km vs 70 km

Barak-8 has dual pulse rocket motor ..... enabling it to coast for sometime before the second pulse is ignited .... thereby increasing the range , reducing the weight & better assured kill probability .

Mid-life refit begins! Talwar Class Frigate of Navy being loaded with Shtil-1 surface to air missile at INS Kadamba. BrahMos VLS is to follow.

Under the mid life refit program the first batch of 3 talwar class(talwar,trishul,tabar) and 3 delhi class destroyers are going to get a real good overhaul,which was just cleared in july.

First 3 Talwars get -
8 (220 km) Klub replaced by 8 (300km) brahmos.
ACTAS active towed array sonar (German)
SHTIL-1 arm launcher replaced by Shtil VLS cells.

Delhi Class gets -
Old Uragan shtil SAM replaced by VLS shtil-1.
New data transmission and storage system.
Subsonic Kh-35 replaced by Brahmos.
Fregat M2EM airsearch radar replacing older Fregat MAE version.
ACTAS active towed array sonar replacing current VDS(variable depth sonar)
Possible - HUMSA-NG passive sonar replacing older HUMSA passive sonar.

The biggest capability increments are the VLS shtil and the ACTAS.Followed by brahmos.

For Delhi class, I think OTO Melara's 127/64 is on cards.

India's Ministry of Defence (MoD) recently approved the INR15 billion (USD243.5 million) procurement of 13 127 mm guns for Indian Navy (IN) warships, for which Italy's OTO Melara was the sole bidder.

IN sources told IHS Jane's that OTO Melara has offered its 127/64 LW - Vulcano gun system for 13 indigenously designed and built Shivalik-class frigates and Delhi-class destroyers.

So,3 Delhi + 3 Shivalik + Project 17A = 13

It doesn't really matter that much,high flight profile missiles are relatively easy to intercept regardless of speed,especially when they are in the dive phase..because the radar picks them up so early on.It may get a modest increase..anyway aster's ceiling is 13 km for as-15 and 20 km for as-30 ..so that tells you that its the minimum altitude that matters in naval combat much more due to sea skimmers.

Coasting phase means the unpowered flight of the missile/rocket ..... it is the phase between a stage burnout and ignition of the next stage .

Look at the time difference between PS3 seperation and PS4 ignition ..... almost 1600sec of coasting .
