Defense Spending in 2045 according to UK goverment

PPP works for Russian defense spending.

They produce their stuff domestically, they pay wages in local currency, etc.

Exactly. On the other hand, certain nations like India (world's largest arms importer) will have a hard time inking any deals if they try to use PPP/imagination money when their suppliers want cold hard cash.

.
Pakistan not in the list?considering that Pakistan GDP PPP will also hit a trillion mark by 2016
Why would Pakistan be on the list? They won't be in the top ten economies come 2045 so how could they be in the top ten defence spenders?

Most countries in top 10 by 2045 will have robust domestic defense industries by then.

What it says Pakistan would be spending on its defence ?

I checked the whole document...Pakistan defense spending is not mentioned in the document.

Pakistan would be most likely in the top ten economies by GDP PPP atleast

No doubt about what you said and thats why Indian planners are trying to indigenise weapons for military as much as possible and as a result perecentage wise India has imported less compared to previous decade.

.
russia will be bigger than uk, germany and japan combined

True. India has the potential to eventually create a mostly/all homegrown arsenal. Nevertheless, even Russia is importing military subcomponents from China to the tune of billions of dollars due to Western sanctions.

Russia Looking To China For Military, Aerospace Components

And China imported/imports Russian jet engines. And Britain imports a helluva lot of stuff from the US. IMO, military spending is the one thing that should never be calculated using PPP.

Well said. I dont understand why people even take this PPP seriously. Nobody really considers it when making international comparisons. Nominal is what is used/recognised internationally.

Anyway, 30 years is too long and its even funny to hear people making such predictions especially on defence spending. Many things will happen , we can't even predict what each country will spend in 2015 or 2016 much less in 30 years.lool since many things will surely happen before then that will change what countries will spend on their defence.

Exactly. 30 years is way too long. Even 20 years is pushing it because you never know when some confluence of events can totally derail everything. Like the perfect storm of the western sanctions and low oil prices hitting Russia at once and causing recession or near recession, for example. Hopefully the British government doesn't take the report too seriously and only uses it for academic purposes. And hopefully for British taxpayers, the government didn't spend too much money when commissioning this "report."
