@Skull and Bones loan with interest and arms procurement with interest are two different things. japan gives loan with less than 1% interest rate. I guess they don't know about world market yet!

Seriously though, why did we decide to go for 17SH? what kind of stupidity is this. a squadron Mil 28 costs around 300m :undecided: 2 squadron of YAK should also be 300-350m. Rest could have gone for Radars, arms and Anti-Tank. Because of all the things BD needs right now, its armoured bridges :hitwall:

U have to understand that IMF and WB loans do not come at 2 or even 1 %. Their loan rates are high.
Japan is developed and it can even give money for free. Same is not the case for India. We are developing.

Defence procurement are wanted and listed by the military itself. The govt merely tries to necessiates its buy through diplomacy.
Even if the deal doesnt fall through, the govt ask the military , whats the second best weapon.
The govt simply cannot order something, the military does not wish.

Why dont you guys check with China? They are happy to give soft loans on defence equipments they manufactured.. Most of the people here claims they produce world class product.. So I think its a better option..

. .
Russia, the world's second-largest weapons exporter, has granted a $1 billion loan to Bangladesh for arms purchases, President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday after talks with the country's prime minister, Sheikh Hasina.

"Our countries intend to broaden military-technical cooperation," Putin said, referring to weapons sales and servicing. He did not specify what weapons or military equipment Bangladesh would buy from Russia.

Russia will provide a separate $500 million loan to Bangladesh to help build its first nuclear power plant, Rooppur, under an agreement signed after the meeting, Putin said.

"We will not only provide the most up-to-date technology ... but we will also provide financial support for the construction of the nuclear power plant at the initial stage," he said.

The head of Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, Sergei Kiriyenko, said technical and environmental assessments would be carried out this year for the plant, which is to have two 1,000-megawatt reactors and be completed in the early 2020s.

He told reporters more loans would be required at later stages.

So the deal has been signed. However, the interest rate isnt revealed as of yet. Paying 5% interest rate is too high. I hope hasina managed to bring it down to at least 3%. If not bangladesh will have a hard time balancing its accounts in the future.

As for the last line, WTF!! Normally i like russia, but seriously this is too much.

It has been proven in another thread that Global Firepower is not a credible source for Military ranking!

These will be useless just like the migs with a source of looting.

Btw @Gyp 111 @kobiraaz , can china supply us the spares of Yak130 if it becomes unable to fly? Or is this trainer compatible with say (I really hope) a future J11 or J10 with BAF? :D

Luffy Bhai, conveying salaam to you, I would like to take the liberty to say 'No', CHN wouldn't do that. Anyway, it seemed like the YAK wasn't purchased after all though IMO, the entire scheme was to steal money through kick backs like the one of MIG and Shiddirgonj Fertilizer ones...

only thing about this purchase would make the deal fishy is huge interest rate of 4% . we are buying their weapons their industry is going to get the benefit yet they are taking such a huge interest . and the weapons we are buying are on use by us already like the BTR-80 and mi-17 helicopter . other are new like Anti tank missile radar .
the jet trainer aircraft was necessary as we have seen couple of training aircraft accident . beside the intermediate trainer we should look to buy primary training aircraft.
