With about 18% growth in the first three quarters of 2011-12, aircraft exports, including components, stood at about $1.31 billion against $1.11 billion in the corresponding period of 2010-11, Assocham said.

With about 18% growth in the first three quarters of 2011-12, aircraft exports, including components, stood at about $1.31 billion against $1.11 billion in the corresponding period of 2010-11, Assocham said.

Parts and components alone have contributed a whopping 96 percent of the total aerospace exports, highlighting India's manufacturing capability oriented towards tier I, II and III suppliers against original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), it said.

In the interest of top-level private defence equipment manufacturers and exporters, Assocham has sought exemption from input tax and levies for their contractors and sub-contractors by issue of customs and excise duty exemption certificates on the lines of defence public sector undertakings (DPSUs).

Speaking about the lack of proper definition of defence products, "which is imperative for aerospace and defence sector to be able to access policy support and incentives for exports", Assochan said due to this, "government support remains ad hoc, lengthy and unnecessarily litigative".

Assocham has also suggested the government introduce defence as a priority sector for entities like the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC). A defence export award must also be instituted, it said.

hope this will continue and india make more exports than imports

1 advice.................

plz don't compare this export with any other country this will make this a troll thread.........

Its a start.......

If Arjun MK2, LCA, F INSAS, Akash, etc. weren't so badly needed by our forces maybe they could be offered as export. The problem is, the defense industry cannot keep up with Indian demand as is let alone export.

Which is what needs to be done; total corporatization of DRDO, HAL/ADA etc whereby talent is hired en masse and further trained to refinement to work on large scale manufacturing of these equipment for exports. I am sure we can find a strong market of potential buyers-- those who are politically neutral and need weapons for self defense rather than any geo-political gameplan.

i am surprised , pleasantly i might add , to see us doing so much export .

I know what you mean,was a little stunned myself to learn we export defence tech too.Sample this treat if you haven't heard of it yet;

A state-of-the-art indigenously built EMP (electromagnetic pulse) shelter to shield the Launch Control Centre (LCC) of the Interceptor missile against eventualities like nuclear explosion or electronic bomb was handed over to Director-General of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) V.K. Saraswat here on Sunday.

In a chat with reporters after receiving the 40 feet long EMP shield for LCC of the air defence programme, manufactured by Enertech Engineering Private Limited at Cherlapalli near here, Dr. Saraswat described it as a “major technological breakthrough” that provided import substitution.

The long-felt need for this technology had been fulfilled as it has many features which were denied to India. It was a great innovation and would cost only one-tenth of an imported system.

He said the equipment in the LCC would not be affected by external conditions including electronic jamming. Five to six such shelters would be required for air defence programme and the country would be needing hundreds of such shelters.

Earlier, lauding Enertech engineering for making the shelter, he urged the Indian industry to enhance capabilities to meet the requirements arising out of the defence offset policy.

Major achievement

Enertech Engineering's CMD, Vijay Chandha said the 40 EMP Shelters for housing the Launch Control Centre of interceptor missile was the first of its kind in the country, although the company had so far delivered more than 650 military shelters of different configurations and applications to the Indian defence services and exported 100 mobile shelters to Israel, France and the USA.

Avinash Chander, Director, Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL) expressed his delight that India which used to import shelters from Israel 15 years ago was now exporting them to that country.

S. K. Ray, Director of Research Centre Imarat (RCI), said the industry would have the opportunity to partner with DRDO for many more projects relating to on-board missile and ground systems.

D.S. Reddy, project director, AD programme, said DRDO was satisfied with the delivery of the shelter as met its requirements.

Irrespective of your motives, you do have a point. Even I would like to see any list of export items.

$2 bn aerospace, defence exports by India in 2011-12: Assocham - Economic Times

The news itself says bulk of it is components not big ticket items like heli.

Arjun has been developing for a very long time...
LCA, well its still in development!!, They began a long time ago, and now they have to face consequences by keeping up with new tech in new era. Who would buy it when JF-17 is better and cheaper.
I don't know what MK2, do you mean LCA? It didn't succeed mk1 first so how can you be so sure of mk2?
Certainly there are competitors in the market for selling missiles. Who would trust India with Akash, when DRDO failed many missile tests?

.
^Jealous!

Nothing is manufactured without setbacks. LM F-35 has overrun its budget and time. Does that mean US is not good at producing stealth aircrafts? (A good place to get an answer would be the your AF officers reading radars on May 2 ).

He is talking about Arjun MK2. Already 128 tanks of MK1 standard have been delivered to IA. Next is induction of yet another 128 tanks of MK2 standard (under development); order has already been placed. There are already talks on the making of MK3.

Akash has been inducted in large quantities by IA and IAF. Stop commenting on DRDO please! They are making a 5K range IRBM and 3.5 k range SLBM.

By the way, see below Ghauri and No Dong for similiarity

Lets not compare LCA with JF17 and calling the latter better without providing any reasons why it is better is ridiculous.
