Napas Khan, the police chief in the Naw Zad district, told The Associated Press by telephone that the insurgents had advanced to within 65 feet of the compound after seizing police vehicles and weapons and blocking all roads out of Naw Zad.

"We need an immediate response from the government," Khan said.

...

"They destroyed or captured most of our checkpoints and now they have reached our police headquarters," Khan said. "They are mostly firing at us from the hills overlooking our compound."

It looks like things will get ugly again pretty quickly with the US involvement ending.

I am sorry to say thin but it looks like the 1980s-90s all over again. The US and Europeans will pull out leaving the Afghans to fight and kill each other again, leaving the area politically unstable for any progress. This is how WE left them to die after the Soviet Invasion was repelled and this is what will be done again.

"Also on Monday, a suicide truck bomb attack and a separate roadside bombing in southern Afghanistan killed 11 people and wounded dozens more, as the Taliban clashed with supporters of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) up in the west, officials said."

Now this is confusing, who is fighting who and who is supporting who again :undecided:

This are not good - there are immense pressure on the NUG - some say Karzai is angling for power again others say CEO sahib since Ghani does not have a direct power base. There are fears of a civil war and/or military coup.

Military coup impossible, civil war most likely and Afghan Taliban back in picture highly likely. They will surely try to have an upper hand when it comes to negotiating the power sharing deal.
