Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu today (Sunday) said the government will set up two new leather industrial estates in Chattogram and Rajshahi divisions to expand the sector in the country.

“As per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we’ve already selected the locations for setting up the leather industrial estates. The Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) is working in this regard,” he said.

The Industries Minister said this while addressing at the Executive Committee of National Council for Industrial Development (ECNCID) meeting at the Industries Ministry in Dhaka, an official release said.

Energy and Mineral Resources Division Secretary Abu Hena M Rahmatul Muneem, Agriculture Secretary M Nasiruzzaman, Secretary-in-Charge of the Industries Ministry M Abdul Halim and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Md Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) were, among others, present at the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Amu stressed ensuring uninterrupted supply of gas to the fertilizer industries of the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) aiming to increase fertilizer production, BSS reports.

“The authorities concerned will have to focus on system loss instead of disconnecting gas lines in the industries,” he added.

Note the garbage dumpings in somewhere near the Savar tanning areas when all the Hazaribag factories have not yet moved there. The authorities have completely failed to control the dumping of garbage here and there. Nothing systematic is done in BD that results in such a dismal situation. To remain dirty has become a part of our culture. Now, the govt wants two more leather parks. The result will be the same as Savar. More money for the rich, but more garbage and more pollution.
