Crumbling Infrastructure Is Hurting America’s Competitive Edge

https://waterpolls.org/ap-gfk-flint-water-poll-2016/

more than two thirds americans avoid directly drinking from tap.

You are intentionally dancing around the actual issue.

People might get a big bottle of springwater but they are not going to use it to brush their teeth, make soup, or something because they think tap water will make them sick.

This isn't about water taste. This about drinking water safety.

No I am not. Its not a big bottle of springwater i am talking about. It is installing water filters in every house (especially suburbia) and making it a point to avoid drinking directly from tap. Taste is part of water quality, good tap water MUST address it.
I never understood this tap water quality bravado . it is simply not supported by how people actually live.

When I lived in New York I never drank tapwater, the water seems to have so many small particles in it, it made me uneasy to drink it directly.

It won't get you sick since millions drink it every day. Have an ice cream at the local mom&pop shop. Tap water. Have a salad. Vegetables washed in tap water. Ice in drink. Tap water. Free-refill cold fountain drink at the local eatery. Tap water.

You did and didn't notice.

Ok, but I don't drink tapwater anywhere, I believe water coming out of a faucet through a piple is never 100% safe, faucets and pipes can be easily contaminated by bacteria and viruses, I'll stick to my water cooler.

Most people, world over use tap water for washing vegetables or taking showers. Even in third world countries. as a kid i drank tap water in various places including india - i did just fine. what did you imagine ? that other countries serve poison through taps ?
The only real standard is can you drink straight up or not. It is NOT about someone certifying it is safe - can you drink it like you drink filtered water or bottled water.

Now you know full well that's not true.

There's one thing to not drink tap water because you don't like the taste vs not drinking it because it will get you sick.

Chinese don't get sick because of drinking tap water either, it is just a social practice tradition since ancient time that we prefer the heated water and cooked food instead of raw water and raw meat like our genetic ancestors probably 20,000 years ago or you are now.

I think it is more to do with disease-control practices in the past, just like the case of European practice to eat using sperate dishes etc.

Each country has their own way to deal with disease in the past, in China heated food and heated water are just the way they dealt with disease-transmission, and it stands on scientific ground, so we keep that tradition even now, and our organs has adjusted to that, so our stomach just get used to heated water and foods etc.

Unlike burning witches as your way to deal with rat disease which has zero scientific evidence to back it up so you finally figured that out after probably a thousand years practices and forgot that tradition latterly.

For closure:

Judge OKs $626 Million Settlement In Flint Water Litigation
About $600 million is coming from the state of Michigan, which was accused of repeatedly overlooking the devastating risks of switching Flint’s water source in 2014.

"The deal makes money available to every Flint child who was exposed to the water, every adult who can show an injury, certain business owners and anyone who paid water bills.

Flint switched back to a Detroit regional water agency in fall 2015 after Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha publicly reported elevated lead levels in children."

San Francisco is exceptionally bad as the worst city in US and probably North America if you are specifically talking about homeless problem. SF deteriorated a lot in last few years.

Pretty much every other US city is better than San Francisco

He compares SF to downtown Mumbai in India. Interesting choice.
