Crimes against women continue unabated in India

India's civil society is still reeling from the gang r*pe of a girl on a moving bus in 2012.

Despite people's relentless efforts to counter social vices, crimes against women continue unabated. R*pes, molestations, dowry deaths, and honor killings are still common in the country.

Although after independence from the British rule India adopted its constitution and replaced the old laws with new ones, there are still major voids. Our reporter Shahana Butt has more details.

PressTV-No letup in crimes against women in India

There's a fierce disagreement with the narrative that's being built around India - There are many other countries with similar, if not more, pressing gender concerns than India. Things have changed and will continue to do so in the future - Women in India are much better off than they actually were a couple of decades back -

With time, a lot has changed since those dark ages of the 1950s for the women. Though at some levels like dowry, crimes like rape, sexual harassment at office or public places, and molestation, eve-teasing, even after over sixty years of independence women are still exploited, which is the shameful side of our country. Yet one can’t deny that the situation has improved since the earlier times.

India has taken a lot of measures to improve health, education, and safety of women and children. Women are encouraged today to enter all walks of life and compete on equal terms with men. Over the past 2 decades, India has gone through a lot of positive changes which have consequently resulted in improvement of women’s status in this country. From business to sports - women in India have been empowered as evident.

Subcontinent in general is not a good place for girls but Mullah Iran should be last one to speak about rights of women. Girls dressed in full clothes are arrested when they dance and shoot themselves.

Fact - Singing and dancing is banned for muslims.

Crimes against women are continued unabated throughout the entire world

Are you really Ugandan? Looking at your posting history one would assume an Indian. You've never said anything about Uganda.
Internet gives you animosity which is more headache to deal with it.
