The world economy will go into recession due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the exception of India and China, according to a latest United Nations trade report. Two-thirds of the world living in developing countries are faced with unprecedented economic damage, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development said in its new analysis, calling for a $2.5 trillion rescue package for these Nations

do you even bother to read the nonsense you post?

This will spell serious trouble for developing countries, with the likely exception of China and the possible exception of India," UNCTAD said. The report, however, did not give a detailed explanation as to why and how India and China will be the exceptions

Rest of the world will go into recession but China and India, China being the world's manufacturing center will just be fine? Lol. Just look at 2008 crash.

You can mail UNCTAD and ask them why did they include India along with China, and why did they not give any explanation why India and china are unlikely to get hit.

A recession is generally defined as two consecutive quarters of negative growth.

We may not see this happening if the world can defeat this pandemic in a few months, either by a miracle vaccine or more likely by following the S Korean model of mass testing and hunting down any cases and their contacts.

It is very possible that the infrastructure of widespread testing and surveillance can be set up in the next couple of months to allow the vast majority of economic activity to restart again that has been stopped in the developed world.

I would like to remain optimistic that a recession may be avoided.

@Slav Defence don’t know what to say....

OP posts an outrageous claim made by some lame underfunded U.N. affiliate. The report provides no justification for the claim that India will experience growth while the other major economies go into recession.

surely this deserves a negative rating.

Considering Pakistan was in a Continues State of sh!t few years ago. Specially when democracy was taking its revenge. I doubt Crona :hang3: will do much ....

Why are you even a think tank ? You call UNCTAD a lame UN affiliate ? You should do more searching than posting

China is better positioned for sure. Huge population, domestic consumption, world manufacturer, it can maintain reasonable growth trajectory as it did in the last financial crisis. The US is already in a recession and as this prolongs it could very well be a depression.

China manufacturer are now at full steam making medical products for rest of the world. Some idiot still think China will be same recession as them? Maybe for achieving a slower growth compare to past is recession to China. Then a smaller negative growth for others must be a real growth for them? I lol at this people self delude themselves with all kind of self comfort logic to satisfy their fantasy from reality. @XTQ1999

I don't think you understand how the negative rating works or what credible organizations are.

Whether or not the claim is outrageous, it is made by a UN affiliate thereby giving it credibility. You are, of course, free to give your reasons why you disagree with the report but that will not take away from a UN body's credibility, underfunded or not.

On topic: IndoCarib, the report says 'possible exception of India'. It means not definitely. The headline of the thread you've posted is misleading.
