Though the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon has finished his press conference on Sunday evening without naming the new bowling coach, it has been learnt through BCB sources that the West Indies fast bowling great Courtney Walsh is all set to take the job of bowling coach of the Bangladesh cricket team, a role that has been vacant ever since the departure of former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak, whose two-year deal with the Tigers came to an end in May this year.
The 53-year-old legendary paceman Walsh, who has scalped 519 wickets in 132 Tests and 227 wickets in 205 one-day internationals in a highly decorated career for the West Indies, is currently contracted with the West Indies as the national selector.
Walsh’s contract expires after the ongoing series against India on Sunday. It is understood that the BCB doesn’t want to officially reveal Walsh’s name until he is freed from his other commitments. However according to the BCB insiders, it is all but confirm that Walsh is the man in line to work with Mashrafe and Co.
It is to be noted that the board had been looking for a new bowling coach since Heath Streak quit in May. Aaqib Javed had turned down the offer in June, and since then, the BCB had put up a shortlist of candidates. Apart from Walsh, the shortlist also included the likes of Champaka Ramanayeke, Allan Donald, Chaminda Vaas and a few others.
