Country badly needs Kalabagh Dam: Taseer

Updated at: 1613 PST, Friday, September 10, 2010
Country badly needs Kalabagh Dam: Taseer LAHORE: Governor Punjab Salman Taseer has said that the country badly needs Kalabagh Dam without which there would be no water for crops and neither electricity for running industries.

Addressing at a press conference here in Governor House on Friday, the Governor Punjab said that a process of talks with all political parties can be started for the construction of Kalabagh Dam.

Salman Taseer said that the army worked along with the nation with a praiseworthy spirit to face the flood calamity.

He said the next step would be rehabilitation of the flood affected people and he would never forgive for any negligence in this job.

The governor said that there is great poverty in southern Punjab and development work is needed in this area.

He said that the flood affectees are being helped also through ‘Benazir Income Suppport Programme’ and there is no time for any conflict between the federation and the provincial government.

PS: I am surprised to see this statement coming from Salman Taseer... hmmm seems like the PPP government is finally showing the signs of leniency over this issue

Sorry for another thread of Kalabagh, but i guess this news needed a seperate thread

Its never too late. Our problem is that we reach to the conclusions without a proper thought process. Earlier the same people shelved KBD project and now suddenly they developed love for KBD. Instead of raising voices while sitting in Governor house it would be appreciated that he goes to different provinces and specially Sindh to develop consensus and if there is any development that should be brought into public notice otherwise there is no need for raising controversies.

Its common sense , you store water , ppl can drink water

You store water , you can make electricity

You store water , you prevent floods

You store water you can irrigate lands

Azad... see this is the toruble!
Common sense in not so common in Pakistan.
Taseer really had to see it by his eyes before believing in it.

The lower provinces object to Punjab building the dam for the same reason Pakistan objects to India building dams upstream...absolutely no trust.

There is no question of trust and mistrust between India and Pakistan we have already distributed rivers not percentage of water according to Sindh tas treaty. They may construct any number of dams on rivers which fall in their share less Indus, Jhelum and Chenab. :hitwall:
