Communal clash in Bareilly village overhalwa

Tension gripped Chandpur Jogiyan village in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district on Monday night after members of two communities clashed over distribution of halwa in a temple, police said.


According to a police officer, a group of kanwariyas or devotees of Shiva assembled at the local Shiva temple for the jalasbhisek programme on the last Monday of Shravan.


After the programme was over villagers distributed halwa among the devotees. Members of another community residing across the road opposed the distribution.


They objected to the new tradition saying the halwa distribution programme should be called off immediately.


There was heated exchange between members of the two communities. Soon large number of people gathered on the road and started pelting stones on the kanwariyas and the villagers.

The devotees assembled in the temple premises retaliated by brick batting on the opposite group.

Anti-social elements fired on the kanwariyas and a 12-year-old boy sustained injury.

Fearing that tension might spread to neighbouring villages, the district administration has deployed extra police force in the area.

The district administration and police officers are camping in the village.

Additional superintendent of police Hemant Kutiyal said policemen are patrolling in the area and situation is under control.

The Samaj Wadi party has its own angle, having taken the poor showing in the RS polls as a worrisome premonition wrt the LS poll to come in the future they are busy trying to shore up their "support base". This of course means that they will do anything to capitalize on a mix of trivial and serious issues to engage in communal one-upmanship, inflaming already tense situations to ensure that their targeted vote bank is dealt with a "closure in choices", whereby as before they will have to by default vote en masse for their "security". Of course the other parties are not helping either, with the BSP trying to shore up its Dalit support base, they of course face a particular conundrum since their golden days in power came by as a result of the consolidation of BOTH Muslim and Dalit vote (and even certain sections of the quote unquote upper castes, but getting the latter on board is now nigh impossible) behind their banner whereas the current spate of communal incidents has seen quite a bit of conflict arising between said groups thereby complicating any chance of such a consolidation. The BJP's "allies" are also running about trying to get their angle in, albeit more subtly given that they have to pay heed to the necessities of the NDA central government. In short, the Indian Express reported that there have been 600 communal incidents in the last few months in UP.

I know. It is a fallacy that extremism is exclusively born out of oppression, at least personal oppression in the lives and communities of the said extremists themselves. Being a bigot or a fundamentalist and then taking the leap to violent and armed non-uniformed combatant does not require direct atrocities in every case, there will always be those who are enraged enough by the "plight" of their coreligionist elsewhere to kick up a storm here.

This is a grave security threat, earlier today I ran into a thread about the IM dropping "Indian" from their title and I saw some posters rejoicing, that is inanity, the fact the IM wishes to expand its AO by no means can be equated with any letup in their hostility against us. If anything their active involvement in other conflicts could very well earn them other supporters (financial, grunts, "moral") and if not nipped in the bud they could very well return as a larger and more potent threat than before.

No other states in India are messed up like UP.
And you are generalizing entire India for that.
Only UP is suffered like this why? .Probably due to the huge population having absolute poverty and illiteracy .Rural UPites give more importance to the false honour ,religion etc.

Yes, but we cannot ignore what happened in Tamil Nadu either. @Ravi Nair did not bring up this specific case to suggest a parity between UP and TN in this context, but rather to highlight the progression of radical thought in the nation. Let us remember that sympathy for the ISIS could turn to "volunteering" (in fact we already know that 2 youths from Bombay did just that and went off to fight for ISIS) and then even more critically culminate in the introduction of full scale armed sectarian conflict (a civil war in the Indian Muslim community) when these volunteers return, any such scenario would be a prime opportunity for exploitation as far as the states with less than benign intentions towards us are concerned.

You had youths, 500 Muslim youths from Britain fighting along ISIS. Muslims were not oppressed there too.

these fighters pose a problem when they try to come back. They will have psychological issues, will be battle hardened, and will probably not step out of that war mentality.
