NEW DELHI: Indicating that Islamic State could be planning an attack in Bangladesh or West Bengal, a pro-IS Telegram channel has released a poster in Bengali saying “Coming Soon”. Sources in an intelligence agency confirmed that such a poster was in circulation and that it was being looked into.


The poster, released on Thursday night, reads “Shighroi Aschhe (coming soon), Inshallah..” and has the logo of a group called al Mursalat. Agencies have taken the poster seriously as the IS has just carried out deadly serial blasts in Sri Lanka through local outfit Tawheed Jamaat.

Bangladesh already has a strong Islamic State presence with a section of local terrorist organisation named Jamatul Mujahideen (New-JMB) being affiliated to ISIS Central.

However, JMB operatives have also been known to frequent Kolkata and others parts of West Bengal and neighbouring states for recruitment and establishing hideouts.

In February this year, a JMB operative, Ariful Islam, was arrested from the Babughat area in Kolkata. He was one of the accomplices in the Bodh Gaya blast, which took place in 2018. Earlier, JMB had set up a module in Assam as well and the arrested operatives had disclosed that the outfit was using Chirang area of Lower Assam district as a training centre, an officer recalled.

Last July, US agency FBI had interrogated ISIS-JMB terrorist Mohammed Musiruddin a.k.a Musa arrested by the West Bengal CID from a train at Burdwan station. Musiruddin, who had been hiding for a long time in Tamil Nadu's Tirupur district, had revealed his links with Amjad Sheikh, a key member of the JMB, arrested in 2014 in connection with the Khagragarh twin blast case. Three years ago, local JMB sleeper cells had put up posters in several districts of West Bengal asking the youth to join the terrorist organisation.

Where is the equivalent of Indian Rapid action forces i.e. SWAT teams with training and equipment to match?? These terrorists are finding safe haven in India now.

A pro-Islamic State (IS) Telegram channel has released a poster in Bengali language which says, "coming soon", indicating that the IS could be planning an attack in either Bangladesh or West Bengal.

Sources in an intelligence agency confirmed that the Bengali poster in question was in fact being circulated and that the agency was investigating the matter.

Released on Thursday night, the poster reads "Shighroi Aschhe [coming soon], Inshallah...". The poster also features the logo of a group called Al-Mursalat, according to the Times of India.

Islamic State already has a strong hold in Bangladesh with a section of local terrorist organisation named Jamatul Mujahideen (New-JMB) which is affiliated to ISIS Central.

It is a cause for concern as JMB operatives have been known to recruit and establish hideouts in Kolkata and others parts of West Bengal and neighbouring states.

Three years ago, local JMB sleeper cells had put up posters in several districts of West Bengal asking the youth to join the terrorist organisation.

The existence and circulation of the Bengali poster is being taken seriously as the IS recently carried out over eight deadly serial blasts in Sri Lanka through local outfit Tawheed Jamaat.

Days after the serial blasts in Sri Lanka, Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack in which over 300 people were killed, and hundreds more injured.

The blasts targeted churches and hotels, and foreign nationals, including 11 Indians, were among the dead.

It shows how we have changed our intel gathering capabilities.

West bengal is not a good stomping ground for the center. Remember our cbi team was detained by local cops. The local government won't cooperate with the centre in tracking extremists.

BTW Bangladesh has several paramilitary outfits like this - I'm sure Bangladeshi brothers will know more than I do.

To claim Pak doesn't have this is a bit of a stretch. They are much more of a Fauji country than India is. In fact way too much because of the internal terrorism issues. But their country, their rules.

Happened more than a decade ago where NSG had to clear 997 rooms, all of which could be harboring terrorists or hostages.
Moreover, NSG has evolved so much since then. It was then based in delhi only, now its in all 4 corners of country and reach any corner very quickly as soon as order is given. Infact NSG was used during Pathankot.

Its not just a regular Paramilitary.

This is a paramilitary. Calling NSG and them equal in terms of capability is a gross misrepresentation. NSG while termed as Para military, because its under home ministry, is a Special force in its own rights that draws personnel specifically from army and gives them gruelling training, sees high attrition rate, to carry out operations against terrorists.
