Colombo, world’s fourth fastest-growing tourist destination

BD visits 1.3 million to india and you only received 2000? You guys should market more to get few detour BD tourist from India .
I m sure 100,000 bd tourist can be availed with ease.

For sure mate, But i guess being next door neighbors with a easy to travel land border surely helps, They should have direct air connections Dhaka to Colombo to promote mutual tourism

Just look at the bd tourist in malaysia and thailand. I think even bali receive far more bd tourist than SL. You need to market more.

Cost and scale play a role I guess ...Bangladeshi visitors can cross on road too by bus or car to West Bengal ...it's not the same as flying to Sri Lanka ..much costlier

Also , Indian tourists are high because the rates from Tamil Nadu(Chennai) to Colombo can be dirt cheap during some seasons ( in the whereabouts of 5000 INR to and fro if booked well in advance )

Number alone does not justify achievement.
Bali is an island.
SL is a country.
Tourism in SL is not supposed to be merely pure tourism.
Pure tourism alone does not really bring healthy development and long-term inclusive growth. I do not see people in Bali becoming really rich, but tourist agencies do get rich via massive influx of Australian and Chinese tourists.

I see tourism in SL is a natural product of increasing investment in civil infra, financial centre, cross-border commerce, maritime logistics, etc.

The city Chengdu in the list is a commercial and high-tech centre first, then tourists come naturally!
Chengdu does not have beaches and has a very very very bad geographic location deep in the interior of China.
Yes, she has pandas, but without the best infra, foreigners won't choose Chengdu as one of their first choices in China.

Chengdu City, Sichuan Province of Western China

I have very high expectation of SL!
She is not supposed to be a tourist destination we think as a cheap choice like many places in Southeast Asia. She should attract middle-high end tourists who can spend at least $300-500 per day, as well as business trips, international expo trips, etc!

Yeah, SL should sell tourism products in China like some countries already done such as Denmark, Isreal.

Get in touch with some tv stations for some reality/live show programs. Boom, figures doubled.

Actually, many ppl in China have even strong willingness to tour our brotherhood land - Pakistan too. More videos come from Pakistan these years.

Best wishes to our friend countries in SA. Congratulations.

Sri Lanka is still developing infrastructure that would attract Tourists

They are planning a boat service using canals in colombo

The main issue is Sri Lanka not marketing the right things

There are many other sites than Kandy and Colombo

Chengdu is ranked second? I was shocked. What about Chongqing?

I have been to almost all countries in South Asia(except Pakistan and Bhutan). Sri Lanka to my surprise was the most beautiful of all and fairly clean as well. To me , it's the finest island of its size in the world that I have been to,along with Barbados and Seychelles :-)

Loved Kaudalla National Park and Yala National Park in the southeast and saw leopards as well(which surprised me). I was even more surprised to see it's Similar to Addo National Park in South Africa, which is home to so many elephants. Never knew Sri Lanka had elephants in the wild. Plus Sigirya (if i spelt it correctly)Was wonderful, one of the experiences I had there which I will never forget.

Kandy was a place I wish I had more time to explore though(too bad spent just 2weeks in the country, so my options wer limited). I loved the architecture, the hills, and the frenetic energy of the city. However, Galle was my favorite place in the country, loved the fact that is was a fascinating small city with really interesting architecture and a 16th century Galle Fort. As for beaches Hikadwa(if I spelt it correctly again. Lol) was one of the best beaches I have been to.

What struck me again and again was how much Sri Lanka felt like Southeast Asia maybe a less developed Thailand, Malaysia or maybe Vietnam(havent been to Vietnam though, so can't tell for sure) . It didn't feel like most South Asian countries I have been to.

I will advice anyone who wants to travel for holiday in Asia to make a visit to Sri Lanka, they won't be disappointed. That I can assure them at least. :-) Bangkok to me is overrated. @waz, @Vergennes, @Blue Marlin et Al.

Ha, I've been bro. Great place.

Lol what was that supposed to mean? @Gibbs any clue?

Hmmm

Thanks goes to Pakistan for defeating keraltis in Srilankan war against terrorism.

Keralites had little to do with the Tamil conflict directly mate, Except for being Indian, Who's one time govt created the LTTE and for the little known fact that Prabhakaran the LTTE leader despite claiming to fight for Tamil seperatism was actually a Malayali by origin

Kerala people in general get along very well with the people of Sri Lanka, they're quite similar in custom to the Sinhalese

Did a decent job there with the spellings mate, Prolly just one or two vowels missing.. :P

Glad you enjoyed your stay, Brits do have a nostalgic connection to the island and you're right go to the country side you'd be mistaken you're in South East Asia not South Asia
