A professor at Harvard University Karin Michels has revealed that, as opposed to contrary belief, coconut oil is actually very harmful, reported Business Insider.

A 50-minute German lecture that has been creating quite a buzz on the internet. Michels, who is also the director of the Institute of Prevention and Tumor Epidemiology at the University of Freiburg has stirred an online debate.

Her lecture titled ‘Coconut Oil and other Nutritional Errors’ highlights dietary recommendations which also underlines that coconut oil is not healthy. Its superfood status has come under the limelight after American Heart Association (AHA) updates its guidelines last year. AHA recommended that people should avoid the saturated fatty acids that are found in coconut oil.

Michels went a step further claiming coconut oil to be “pure poison” and being “one of the worst foods to eat”. No studies so far have showed significant health benefits from the consumption of coconut oil. The professor states that the saturated fatty acids found in coconut oil can clot coronary arteries.

Experts recommend olive or rapeseed oil as an alternative because they contain unsaturated fatty acids. While flaxseed oil can’t be used in cooking, it’s rich in omega-3 fatty acids which is good for the body.

The scientific world still stands divided on whether saturated fatty acids are actually harmful or not. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition stated that people who consume cheese, whole milk – which are high in saturated fatty acids – were at no higher risk of heart diseases than people who don’t.

So what’s the deal with coconut oil? Many dietary guidelines recommend consuming saturated fats in moderation. All coconut oil lovers are advised not to overindulge.

8-) In all honesty Coconut water is absolutely great for health you feel difference after drinking it and for Poor countries the Coconut cooking oil is fantastic as it adds necessary nutrients for body , for communities that "OVEREAT" that is problem but for countries where people have modest diet it is ok

Example 1:
Harvard researcher , eats big Bacon+Meat burger in morning , Eats massive Burger in lunch and then eats half pizza at dinner. Sits on bench and does nothing all day. Then a late night burger or fries. And must drink that Thick Milk shake smoothie

Example 2:
A person in Pakistan is a laborer , eats a modest Tea or bread in morning and then a , 2 roti meal with salan and may be some fruits. Dinner time same. Walks 4-5 km due to work and may be stands and walks all day. Or may be they have to lift or carry luggage by hand

So likely for the active person in example 2 coconut cooking oil would give him additional energy resources his body would easily absorb the additional stuff

Right, so this is the standard of Harvard professors these days.

This is not entirely true, in fact most major studies do agree that coconut oil and saturated fats ( saturated fatty acids ) are extremely bad for coronary health. However there is some new evidence that moderate amounts may not be as bad as previously thought.

rapeseed oil ( sarrsoon ) contains erucic acid which is "which is damaging to cardiac muscle of animals, and glucosinolates," so cultivars such as canola which are specificaly designed to reduce that should be the only ones consumes.

Bullshit . Its same Harvard Professors who promoted this idea that sugar diet is better than fat

The sugar industry paid scientists in the 1960s to play down the link between sugar and heart disease and promote saturated fat as the culprit instead, newly released historical documents show.

OK . so ?
Today ( not 50 years ago) we know Sugar is bad. But we also know Saturated fats are going to kill you with heart and coronary disease.
Since you know , are you planning on cutting your sugar?

Also its all for nothing if you don't exercise.

Coconut oil is not a poison by any standard definition of poison. Moderation is key when we talk about sugar/fats especially when you are overweight and have risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes etc and yes I have reduced sugar and unsaturated fats because had high cholesterol but then you have others people who are consuming same thing and are doing fine so our diet should be as per our individual need or goal

Thats true.
coconut is not poisonous by any standard definition.

The context of the actual statement is ;
In the current times, many health food activists are claiming for coconut to be a healthy food alternative to other forms of fats . specifically in the vegetarian diet community coconut is considered very healthy. For example the Doctor Becky Campbell ( who is not a doctor at all ) a quack who's photos are included in the articles.

The Scientist in question is raising alarm by saying its like taking poison. and people should not abandon established heath practices.
