Coast Guard Gets Another Off Shore Patrol Vessel

@Tshering22 @Capt.Popeye @sancho @Koovie @levina

EC-725/H225M trailed in India by the ICG in December 2014, progress is being made on the long-range SAR helo front (at last!):

(mentioned at 1.50)

Glad to see this coming.

On a separate note, why isn't the ICG inducting Mi-17Vs? They are modernized, simple to use, rugged and can carry more people than EC 725. Not to mention, spare parts and maintenance of these helos will be cheaper than the Super Cougar, since there is so much commonality with the IAF. Buying stuff in bulk from Russia or even a local assembly would be easier to negotiate.

Two reasons 1) The Mi-17 V5 isn't navalised meaning that it can't be operated from ships and basing them at sea level at coastal airbases would damage them in the long term 2) despite being twin engined the Mi-17V5 doesn't have the same level of inbuilt redundant safety features as Western designs meaning operating them over the open water far from shore is potentially very hazardous.
