Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday inaugurated Kalma Chowk Underpass, the largest underpass in the history of the country.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Shahbaz said completion of the largest underpass in the record period of 82 days was a great achievement which was made possible with collective efforts of the entire team working on the project. He congratulated the departments concerned, members assembly, contractors and labourers on completing the underpass. He gave away cheque worth Rs2.5 million to the labourers who worked on the project.

The CM said the underpass, consisting of seven lanes, had been completed at a cost of Rs2 billion. He said transparency, quality and speedy completion of development projects was the hallmark of the Punjab government, adding that modern infrastructure was essential for rapid development. He said the Punjab government had spent millions of rupees on improvement of infrastructure throughout the province and a network of roads, bridges and underpasses had been laid due to which economic and trade activities had increased in the province.

Director General LDA while giving briefing about the Kalma Chowk underpass, informed the chief minister the project was completed by working round the clock and that 160,000 vehicles would pass through the underpass daily.
