LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited the site of Aashiyana Iqbal on Burki Road on Monday to review the progress of the project.
Expressing his extreme indignation over the slow pace of work and negligence in the execution of the project, he issued orders for immediate removal of the acting chief executive officer of the Punjab Land Development Company from his post and initiating action against other guilty officers as well. The chief minister also took strict notice of non-completion of the road from Burki to the site of the Aashiyana Iqbal and reprimanded the officers concerned. He said that officers showing careless and negligence towards public-welfare projects had no right to stay on their posts and no such officer would be tolerated in Punjab.
Shahbaz said that Aashiyana Housing Project was a revolutionary project to provide shelter to low-income families, and it had been evolved with a national spirit, but he was shocked to see the inefficiency of the officers concerned during his visit to the site of the project. He also issued orders that the model of Aashiyana Iqbal be evolved under public-private partnership.
Addressing the briefing meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that thousands of homeless people had been provided shelter in Aashiyana Quaid. He said that besides the provincial metropolis, work was also being carried out speedily on Aashiyana Housing Schemes in Sahiwal, Faisalabad and other big cities of Punjab. He said that residential facilities at par with the housing societies of the rich had been provided in Ayshiyana Housing Schemes.
