KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has warned the federal government and the Sui Southern Gas Company that if Sindh's concerns over gas distribution are not addressed by the end of the week, the provincial government will cut off gas supply from Sindh to the rest of the country.

Speaking on the floor of the Sindh Assembly on Thursday, Shah threatened that in case the SSGCL does not take the province's concerns into consideration then the Sindh government would forcefully take over their offices.

"I am warning SSGCL. If they don’t sign their offices are situated in Karachi. We will storm their offices. We will not let them work here. We will take over their offices, and I will do it by force. "

The chief minister's warning comes weeks after he wrote a letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif alleging that Punjab was usurping the share of gas allocated to Sindh.

Shah said: "I spoke with the Chairman SSGCL yesterday, I said to him that please take our consideration into the gas distribution agreement otherwise I have to take drastic action. I said that I will wait till 11 in the morning," further adding," At 11' o clock today he sent the agreement, I checked it before coming here and even now they have taken the same clauses which are not acceptable to us."

The chief minister said that he has told the energy department that if the federal government and SSGCL doesn't accept the demands of Sindh on the issue then he will take an action after seeking support from the treasury and opposition benches.

"Sindh produces 70% gas of the total production and ironically the province is not getting it. We are not able to test-run a 100mg powerhouse at Nooriabad because SSGCL is not providing us enough gas."

He also informed that the federal government has not yet provident 100 megawatts to the K-Electric. "KE had to put the 100mg online by April," he informed.

The leading opposition party in the assembly, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, has given its support to the Cheif Minister on the issue.

Ready to negotiate with CM Sindh: Chairman SSGCL

Chairman SSGC, Miftah Ismail said that he is ready to address all concerns of CM Sindh, however, any such unilateral action will be a violation of the constitution.

While speaking to Geo News, he said that an agreement was signed between the Sindh government and SSGC on Nooriabaad powerhouse, according to it, whenever the Sindh government will provide a bank guarantee, the company will provide them the demanded gas quota.

Earlier, the Sindh chief minister wrote a letter to the prime minister asking him to implement Article-158 of the Constitution in letter and spirit by preventing the diversion of natural gas from Sindh to “politically-selected areas”.

At a press conference last week and later during the provincial assembly session, Murad Ali Shah had said he would write to the top federal authorities including the prime minister on the constant denial of Sindh’s rights in terms of the provision of irrigation water and gas.

Speaking on a resolution at the assembly session, he had announced that he would send a requisition to the federal government for convening the next session of the Council of Common Interests on these issues.

However, in the letter, the chief minister only raised the issue of the provision of natural gas to its domestic, commercial and industrial consumers.

Copies of the letter were sent to the federal petroleum and natural resources minister and the chief ministers Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

If gas is available that 57 new gas schemes can be started in the province from where the PM gets his powers then why Karachi quota is being reduced giving the reason that gas is short.

Sindh don't want to pay for gas, simple as that. SSGCL which is independent company demanded Rs 1 billion guarantee for connection. sab chor hai

NAB, media to raise fingers if gas is supplied to Sindh without deposit: Musadik Malik
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s spokesman Musadik Malik said that if we supply gas to Sindh without payment of deposit amounting to Rs 1 billion by the latter then NAB and media will point fingers towards the federation.

“NAB, media will point fingers on us if we supply gas to Sindh without payment of deposit of Rs 1 billion by the latter. Supply of gas without contract will be black marketing. If Sindh government wants to execute new contract of gas then the federation is ready. They should bring new contract after amendment from their lawyers but then the supply of gas will be delayed”, he said while talking to media.

He held that Sindh government was of the view that matter of deposit should not be included in gas contract while gas supply agreement was signed in 2014. If 1 billion rupees are not deposited by Sindh Government then a problem will emerge in gas supply to them. He ruled out any possibility of disconnection of gas supply.

Such an impression was given from the Sindh chief minister’s speech on Thursday, that federal government didn’t want to supply gas to Sindh but if federation supplied gas by violating the agreement then it will be black marketing, he added.

He further added that there was and is no ban on supply of gas to domestic consumers either in the past or at present. Now government has even lifted ban on gas supply to commercial, industrial and multi flats buildings. 1.2 million cubic feet gas was imported. The federation wants to provide gas to Noori Abad Plant but it is improper to do anything without any agreement.

He observed that the prime minister has lifted ban on new gas connections from all over the country.

Sticking to his portentous warning about cutting off the gas supplies from Sindh to the country, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said on Friday that Pakistan’s Constitution has empowered him to take this step.

“If someone says that I don’t have that power [to stop the gas supply], they have forgotten the Constitution [of Pakistan] has that power and the constitution has given me [Sindh CM] that power,” he asserted while talking to the media in Wahur, Jamshoro district, where he attended the 10th death anniversary of his father, former Sindh CM Syed Abdullah Shah.

Speaking on Thursday in the Sindh Assembly, the CM had also warned of forcefully taking over the head office of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) in Karachi. He expressed annoyance that the federal government-controlled SSGCL has been dillydallying on the case of supply of gas to Sindh Nooriabad Power Company.

there should be another option of
"Why Does an Indian care about whats happening in Pakistan"
worry about your own federation

Good Logic !!!

But it cannot be an option

BTW you can start a discussion on your query :-)

. .
I think that legally they are allowed to do this, but it depends on the resource itself and the level of state ownership.

As for taking over property, isn't Sui Gas Company private? As long as they dont take over property belonging to the federal government then there is no issue.

.
Every province in Pakistan is powerful enough to do what ever they want.

.
Why Indians tend to have short term memory loss why do they forgot about water issues in southern states or btw Haryana and Punjab.

.
first of all electricity should not be generated by natural gas because the reserve of pak natural gas is declining yearly. gas should be supplied only for domestic purpose. pak also has other resources for generating electricity such as coal, wind and solar. only tharparkar can generate enough electricity. sindh politicians just want handsome commissions. remember the rental power plants by sindh govt. LNG project is also expensive for pakistan

@waz @The Eagle kindly change the title of this thread as mentioned in article.
