Clocks to be wound forward for daylight savings
Alexandra Laskie

Victorians will wind their clocks forward one hour on Sunday in line with daylight savings.

Residents in Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory will lose an hour's sleep on Sunday, as clocks reset at 2am.

Smartphones should automatically reset to the correct time.

Clocks were first wound forward in 1942 to save on fuel during the First Second World War. The cost saving measure was then abandoned in 1944, until is was adopted once again in Tasmania in 1967. NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and the ACT followed suit in 1971, although Queenslanders discontinued the practice the following year.

The state government is urging Victorians to change their smoke alarm batteries every time they adjust their clocks.

Daylight savings will end on Sunday, April 2.

Daylight saving

Daylight Saving Time (DST) is the practice of advancing clocks one hour during the warmer months of the year. In Australia, Daylight saving is observed in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, and the Australian Capital Territory.

Daylight saving is not observed in Queensland, the Northern Territory or Western Australia.

Daylight Saving Time begins at 2am on the first Sunday in October, when clocks are put forward one hour. It ends at 2am (which is 3am Daylight Saving Time) on the first Sunday in April, when clocks are put back one hour.

I love day light saving time but my wife hates it. I love it because I reach home with lots of day-light left and my wife hates it because she feels she is an hour late in doing everything during the day :partay:

What a mess in one country.....

yup. daylight savings was for the old days without street lights and electricity. Primarily used for farmers for harvesting. This is 21st century, aussie and Canada still use this outdated method. Backwards country.

We used to have.

Now they are competing for agricultural export.

As a kid I loved playing outdoors with friends in the neighbourhood even around 8 to 9 pm because its still bright.

Now its just an hour less sleep last night.
