CJP Nisar thanks IG Punjab police over progress in Zainab murder case

LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar thanked Inspector General of Punjab police and dispensed with Zainab murder case.

Hearing at the apex court’s Lahore Registry the suo moto murder case of little seven-year old Zainab who was killed in Kasur after sexual assault, CJP Nisar thanked IG Punjab Police Captain (rted.) Arif Nawaz Khan, saying, “You fulfilled what promise you made in the chamber.”

Dispensing with the case, the Chief Justice ruled that the case should be ruled within seven days in accordance with the verdict of the high court.

The minor girl was raped and murdered after she was kidnapped in Kasur in the first week of last month. Body of the little girl was recovered from a heap of trash a few days afterwards.

Her alleged killer, Imran Ali, was arrested after Punjab Forensic Laboratory found that his DNA matched to that collected from the girl’s body.

CJP Saqib heaps praises on Punjab police for catching Zainab’s ‘killer’

• Supreme Court dispose of suo moto case after IG Punjab submitted challan to court

ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday said that the Punjab police showed good performance in the Kasur rape-slay case.

A three-member bench, headed by the chief justice took up the suo moto case regarding the killing of a seven-year-old girl, Zainab’s murder after being raped in Kasur.

The chief justice also wrapped up the case after Inspector General of Punjab police Arif Nawaz Khan submitted challan in the case to the court.

Justice Saqib remarked, “We are thankful to IG Punjab for arresting the accused,” adding that the IG fulfilled his promise, which he had made in the chamber.

Expressing satisfaction over the report, he said that application can be filed in the Zainab case if anyone has complaint. According to orders of the Lahore High Court, the trial court will announce the verdict in 7 days after submission of the challan.

Zainab was kidnapped from near her aunt’s house on January 4 in Kasur. Her body was recovered from a garbage heap on January 9. The post-mortem of the minor revealed that she had been raped before being murdered.

According to Punjab Home Ministry, the trial of the accused, Imran Ali, will be conducted inside the jail. The suspect has been sent on judicial remand by the court.

They would have been worthy of praise if they had arrested him 3 years ago. This recent push to praise Punjab police and discredit KPK police is only because the elections are coming up soon. The CJ says thanks as is normal etiquette and it's made equivalent to 'heaping praise'
