It is clear the church just left them, as said in the news, after conversion, the church built one church thats all nothing else.So they were disillusioned and reverted back. The church knows this. The modus operandi of conversions in India,They want to show numbers to get more funds for conversions once they get the money they leave the converts to fend for themselves while they go to a new place to harvest souls.
Again, not the issue I'm discussing here.

Christians I guess are a very minuscule community (in terms of numbers) in U.P. Or you can generalize this to North India. They have stronger numbers in the South and North East though.

Something seems...off about this entire situation.

There is no fishy about it.Same thing happened in TN a few years ago when Congress was in centre.Hundreds of Christians became Hindus again after they realised their mistake.

I am going to go back on my post. India does not have any Federal anti-conversion law, however 5 states do. These are,

So what ?
I appreciate and support any such laws.Missionaries always to convert Hindus by taking advantage of their poverty.Such things not gonna happen in states.

GANDHINAGAR: From now on, anyone wishing to convert in Gujrat will have to tell the government why they were doing it and for how long they had been following the religion which they were renouncing, failing which, they will be declared offenders and prosecuted under criminal laws.

Forced conversion could land those responsible a three-year jail term. This clause is contained in the rules of the anti-conversion law which came into effect on April 1.

In the past, several Indian states passed Freedom of Religion Bills

primarily to prevent people from converting to Christianity. Arunachal Pradesh passed a bill in 1978.

In 2003, Gujarat State, passed an anti-conversion bill in 2003.

In July 2006, the Madhya Pradesh government passed legislation requiring people who desire to convert to a different religion to provide the government with one month's notice, or face fines and penalties.[13]

In August 2006, the Chhattisgarh State Assembly passed similar legislation requiring anyone who desires to convert to another religion to give 30 days' notice to, and seek permission from, the district magistrate.[14]

In February 2007, Himachal Pradesh became the first Congress Party-ruled state to adopt legislation banning illegal religious conversions.[15]

The US State Department has claimed that the recent wave of anti-conversion laws in various Indian states passed by some states is seen as gradual increase in the traditional nationalism(Hindutva).[16]

Before poking in to issues concern about religious freedom in India ,you should focus on the religion freedom in your nation.
Whether you want the proof of that freedom in your nation?

What caste will these people who reconverted to Hinduism belong to? Will they become bhramins or to their original caste before they became Christians?

yes,There are lot of re conversations happening in India, nowadays, especially in tribal areas....Missionaries and pastors are preying the poverty of these innocents..They say,if you convert..you will become rich in a second,,get jobs, relief from diseases or Jesus will knock your doors like that and gave some initial money for converts...but after that nothing...And after 2-3 years they all reconvert back to their ancestral faith....

Really?

I converted to atheism, i didn't see any CID squad breaking into my premise.
Religion will soon become an outdated concept. There's nothing but bloodshed in it. It's been twisted out of proportion by vested interests for power and pelf. The world is in deep shit mainly due to religion.

The concept of Humanism is catching on which teaches service to mankind and treats humanity as one big family. But the situation will get worse before it starts getting better. And that unfortunately is a few hundred years away in the future. That's when we graduate to a higher plane of spiritual existence. Until then the world will be witness to more blood and mayhem on the streets and killing fields.

The lack of reaction of a church being turned into a temple by the church goers seems really odd to me, I guess I expected at least a bit more outrage from the local christian community.
Well the question would be,how many christains are there in that village, i hv seen a few church in my hometown ,which are abondend throughout the year, and its only during X-mas that u could spot few ppl decorating that church,10-15 ppl at most. The number of christains are quite small in villages of UP, and over here u have 72 people being re-converted to hinduism in one go,i wonder how many are left in tht village to protest against a church being turned into a temple.I m not surprised, atlast it a ''re-conversion'' it ws their personal choice ,it wasn't a forced conversion, tht there would be some protest.
