Significance

• China's new destroyer is likely to have 128 vertical-launch missile cells
• The armament is expected to include the YJ-100 long-range anti-ship cruise missile

A military analyst, Li Li, has told Chinese state television that the new People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) Type 055 destroyer will be equipped with 128 vertically launched missiles arranged in two grids of 64 cells, one forward and one aft.

Li's interview with China Central Television (CCTV) was reported by a number of Chinese online media outlets, including the semi-official PLA Daily.

Li also said the Type 055 would be capable of firing the YJ-100 long-range anti-ship cruise missile from these cells, as well as anti-submarine and air-defence missiles.

YJ-100 is the Chinese Tomahawk Block IV. Just as dangerous as the DF-21D in my opinion.

Yes, the fire power will rival Kirov cruiser without the need to build a 24000tons warship.

China has a conceptual design for a future nuclear powered cruiser, and this monster is made to have the middle course interception capability.

But we will see if it is really needed in the future.

I think type 055 should be last frontier in naval shipbuilding of china, in terms of size as all others navy like korea japan and US, all of those has largest ship will 122-128 VLS tubes.....
