. . .
It's somewhat possible if the lady doesn't have too much make-up or haven't gone through any beautifying surgery, changing shapes of cheekbones or nose.

By possible I mean upto 60% success.

I can usually tell because I have dated Korean women, and was also very interested in animes, and as a result, in Japan too.

Plus you get a lot of tourist from those countries in London so you learn to tell them apart. One thing I noted was their style (clothes, hair and etc) would often be distinct from one another.

With that said, I once met a Korean woman who confessed to me that she could not tell the difference.

I can feel the difference in language. And I think there are white skin Chinese and Japanese, but no such Koreans. May be I am wrong.

Japanese people or life in Japan are nothing like anime though. I agree it's easier to guess when attire is taken into account. Japanese girls put too much makeup. Koreans usually wear bright, shiny dress.

Of cours they are not! The anime mostly has characters that look more European than Japanese. I meant that because of my interest in anime, I become interested in Japan too, and following that interest became more aware of Japanese people and culture, and even grew to like it (this is how soft power works, and therefore is very important!).

Also the facial features are slightly different between the three country, enough to tell them apart most of the time.

How come non east Asians can tell while we east Asian usually can't? Maybe outsiders have a better perception?

I can tell Chinese apart from Korean and Japanese but cannot tell apart Japanese and Korean in cloths ;)

easy crooked teeth Japanese, wide cheekbones and fine hair south Korean and straight nose Chinese sorry if it sounds racist

I can't tell.

Whenever I see an East Asian in Hong Kong I usually just assume they are Chinese.

Clothing is a good indicator. Hairstyle too.

The best way of course is to hear them speak, once they start speaking I can identify them instantly. But if they haven't spoken yet, and they wear regular clothes, it's almost impossible for me to tell.

To be fair I can't really tell the difference between a German and a Polish person either, or a Dutch person and someone from Denmark.

Yea, I can.
If they look:
Normal - Chinese
Weird - Japanese
Extremely weird - Korean

No offence to anyone as I am just talking about their dressing style in western clothing based on very little experience ;)
