Chinese EMU train shipped to Brazil for World Cup service - Xinhua | English.news.cn

CHANGCHUN, May 20 (Xinhua) -- A second China-made electric multiple unit (EMU), a type of intercity high-speed train, arrived in Brazil on Tuesday, the producer said.

The CNR Changchun Railway Vehicles Co. Ltd. based in Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin Province, confirmed that the train was unloaded Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Zhao Yao, the company's EMU project manager, said the train was delivered four months ahead of the contracted delivery time in order to ensure the rail system's operation before the opening of the 2014 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament in the Brazilian city in June.

Comprised of four carriages, the train capable of carrying 1,300 people can run at a maximum speed of 100 km per hour.

The train cars are made of A-type stainless steel and boast far more compressive load than that of normal trains, which means they can ensure passengers' safety in the case of a head-on collision with an 80-ton truck running at a speed of 36 km per hour, said Zhao.

He said the train is also equipped with an advanced air-conditioning system to ensure a comfortable indoor temperature between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius even when the outdoor heat exceeds 50 degrees Celsius.

Whats with your bashing? 100Km/h is consider high soeed in city and its not for province travelling. This the most a metropolis train. Why shall it has high speed that exceed 100km per hour?

The fck? Which part of my comment seemed like "bashing" to you :woot: Stop being so sensitive.

Its being referred to as a "high speed intercity train", which it isn't. Its an intra-city metro train.

A case of our Indian friend lacking the sense of relativity?

Do you know what is InterCity Rail? Want me to google for you?

InterCity (British Rail) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It is make for long haul express train in whole England. Not just London or a City alone. The one made by China is just for City within travelling. Why would it need speed of more than 100km/h? Unless it wants to jam brake and cause premature wearing out of its wheel, track and brake.

Is it not true that Xinhua wrote that is a type of intercity ??

It's true, Xinhua made a simple spelling error. It's actually a Intra city high speed EMU.

Every countries has different context for Intercity. If you google,

InterCity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This abbreviation of meaning is only common in Europe. But remember, in other countries. Like South America or Asia. We define Intercity as different meaning. More like within the City and not cross City. In this context, Xinhua is correct in reference as Intercity since its sold to South America and not Europe. The wording of Intercity is correct. What European used does not define other areas will be the same meaning.

Anyway, what is the point for arguing some wording issue?

We have much better trains. Why do the Brazilians order the ugly one?

I think it is okay looking. Remember, these are not 300km/hr+ high speed rails, so there is no need for the streamlined shape (though, admitting those looks way cooler)

The more important point is that it is an electric train. This means no pollution and low operating cost.
