Chinese defence minister seeks to boost ties with Bangladesh

Indian Pt-76 had around 16-17 hp/ton....they couldn't operate properly in Bangladeshi terrain....mbt2000 has 26hp/ton...it should operate fine in BD....we still don't why the Army complained....the only tank within our acquirable range that has similar mobility is the T90(if we stick a 1200 hp engine into it).
16-17 ton is pretty weak. Bangladesh got their tanks with 800hp engine package for cost reduction. Which backfired.

i read somewhere BD terrain is not suitable for heavy tanks its right ?
But then who uses heavy tanks these days. MBT all the way.

Boeing never offered Bangladesh anything. They were just going for a joy ride, that's all. The Americans will never sell any combat fighter aircraft to Bangladesh. Particularly under this administration, period.

Yes, they are fast!
Oh I meant to say Boeing offered em to India. Obviously rejected. You will never see like that offer even if Americans willed to sell something. Because we bargain too much.

Most of the BD terrain are not suitable for any tanks!
Obviously it won't work on a paddy field quite so well. But then I don't think our terrain is as unsuitable as in Russia. And guess what. They make tanks in spite of it.

Weight isn't the problem with that tank. The power plant is.

MBT-2000 tanks are fitted with diesel 1200 hp engines. Is it small comparing to its weight? Only 26 hp for a ton seems to be small if compared to motor vehicle engines. But, I have little knowledge about tank engine power. Would someone care to explain it to us?

Bangladeshi variant has a 1200 hp (though according to some Chinese forums it's 1300 hp) Water-cooled turbocharged diesel, giving a Power-weight to ratio of 24 hp / ton.

Full Weight: 49 Tons
Max speed: Highway speed 69 km/hour
Range: 450 km

Power is not the issue.I don't even know where this rumor came from.I only heard it among the posters here.Maybe its the quality of armor. It's said the armor is not on par with that of the MBT-2000,though the specification/nature of the armor is classified.

@BDforever is scaring the shit out of certain forum members by talking about buying K2 Tanks.Maybe he should shed some light on this matter.;) :buba_phone:

then why invest on tanks and why these guys on PDF asking more tanks in posts above ? what is better lethel weapon for ground forces ? APCs or AFVs ?
Again... If it wasn't needed they wouldn't buy. Terrain problems that's being bought up is actually pretty minimal when they are already using apc in river crossing warfare scenarios. Tanks for some other scenarios like the borders... Pretty much perfect terrain... There is nothing MBTs can't do. Because they don't face the problem of excessive armor weight.

MBT-2000 comes with 1200bhp engine stick. But read somewhere we got 800 hp engines. Idk how much of a truth it is. But if it is legit then the plan surely backfired on BA. 24hp per ton is a bit disappointing.
How would Bangladesh know if the armor is inferior? Have they put on a trial ? MBT-2000 faceoff for that conclusion?
I think they were short on money and hence didn't go for more. That's I think the real reason. And all the talks on BA nit liking it ... I think is a rumor.

The terrain thing is bit exaggerated.May face some problem in the monsoon, perfect everywhere in the summer. They are for the border terrains anyway.

I have some publication from BA Journal by some senior cavalry officers. Will try to post some other time.

It's 1200 hp,no doubt.Some chinese forum says it has a 1300 hp engine.
No way for 800hp;this thing is huge, it's 49 ton!!!

Armor issue is also he said, that forum/blog said too.The whole thing is a rumor I think.

K-2 tank, checking out K1A1 too :buba_phone:

That's a long time,any news after that?

Looks like they will raise two more armor brigade and,at least an independent mechanized one.Surely will need some hundred.Any idea about how the future armor line up will be?

what I heard is, BD is looking for TOT. So yea, it is taking some time.
It will be finalized within 1-2 years

.
We are not looking for any sort of Korean MBTs. That was just a joy ride. The price of K2 itself is more than enough to cause heart attack among the members of defence procurement committee.

that is why looking for TOT, it will decrease the price

price and logistics will be a issue. BA never operated any western platform, remember that??

And where this "not satisfied with the mbt2000 " thing came from? Do you know about it?

I have never heard also that the MBT2000 tanks are fitted with smaller 800hp engines. Procurement Army officers are certainly not that naive. As of a possible warfare, I can guess it is in the NE where the land after crossing the border is hard and good for tank war. Most of our tanks have been placed in Syedpur.
I cannot understand why people should think that the enemy tanks will enter Jessore, Faridpur and then Savar when our tanks will come out to engage them.

Then I think it's all plain rumor about the tank and maybe they didn't buy more for financing reasons.

They did operate western platforms... For short period of time during and after the war. M4 shermans captured from Pakistani unit. Dammit the Pakistanis forgot anti tank with them during the war. Their own tank got used against them.
MBT 2000 bullshit and many others started from pak defence. This very forum and some trolls. I never bothered to recover my password and reply though.
