China's domestically developed, made-for-export Wing Loong series of drones have fired more than 3,000 rounds of live munitions with an overall accuracy higher than 90 percent, media reported, which analysts called on Monday a demonstration of the Chinese drone's reliability.

The munitions hit both stationary and moving battlefield targets, China Central Television (CCTV) reported last week.

"Higher than 90 percent should be considered very high accuracy and it is absolutely no coincidence when you have 3,000 samples, especially on real battlefields, not just training grounds," a Beijing-based military expert who asked not to be named told the Global Times on Monday.

As export products, the operators of the drones are likely from a variety of countries, indicating Wing Loong is not difficult to operate and very reliable, the expert said, noting that the Chinese side must have provided detailed training.

Developed by the state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), Wing Loong is an armed reconnaissance drone capable of delivering precision strikes via air-to-ground missiles, often likened to the US' MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper drones.

The CCTV report also highlighted a case where a foreign client mishandled the drone and lost contact with it. Just as the operators lost hope and were about to search for the drone's wreckage, it appeared over the airfield and landed successfully, thanks to an automatic return-to-base function that was triggered when the control station could not be reached, according to the report.

On modern battlefields, electromagnetic environments could be very complicated and the communication with a drone could be jammed, the anonymous expert said, noting that the automatic return-to-base function can greatly increase the survivability of the drone.

The expert also pointed out that in this case operators could not even detect their own Wing Loong on radar, demonstrating the Chinese drone's high anti-detection capability.

As of December 2018, 100 Wing Loong series drones were delivered for export, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

It's not this generation of drones that are impressive, it's the next gen drones that will change warfare.

The current global drone fleets are nothing more than glorified bombers, who's only advantage is that they can violate international borders with no risk to the violating countries.

The next gen drones, which will have the capability to fight air to air, those will change warfare.

Other big advantage is of endurance and this one has 20 hours.

amelika's drones have that feature, too. remember when their super advanced stealthy drone lost contact with operators, then automatically went back to iranian air base? lol.. their boeing 737 max has similar function to that, too. its autopilot will make the plane dives down steep head first back to home ground..... amelika ai engineers are aweshome. it will get even more better when all them chinese and other foreign engineers kicked out by the trump administration and hire burger flippers, lawyers and accountants to do coding. great again :enjoy:

No buddy, they are very effective against insurgent and terrorist. They can patrol long hours non stop unlike manned flight. And react on spot once target is confirmed. These makes insurgent movement very difficult and large scale destructive attack impossible. After Iraq deploy Chinese wing loong drone. It turn the tide of war for Iraq armed forces against ISIS.

They can keep large area under surveillance and strike from skies with near silence. These forces ISIS to restrict their movement and warfare.

This techinology isn't revolutionary, it's been around for decades, and it certainly not a game changer.

Fighter jets and surveillance drones are just as effective. Adding a AGM to a drone only lessens the command to kill time ratio.

And these will only work against insurgents, they're next to useless against a properly trained and maintained military force.

Next gen drones, which will be capable of a2a and a2g are what will properly change warfare, as these drones will be much harder to take down, due to their advanced engines and counter measures. They'll be able to fight back against enemy aircrafts, and in a large enough squadron, be able to handle both air 2 air and air 2 ground military targets with high speed and efficiency that current drones do not possess.

One final point, the wing long drone didn't turn the tide of war, that's an exaggeration. The Wing Loong added a force multipler to the Iraqi army, sure, and was very effective, but what turned the tide of war was the Iraqi militias taking up arms when the Iraqi army collapsed.

Other big advantage is of endurance and this one has 20 hours.
Once AGAIN, not really a new or revolutionary technology.

No it don't. Manned aircraft is limited in endurance and not about to carry out all round 24hrs surveillance. Plus it run no risk of casualty and may carry out in harsh weather.

It did turn the tide of war. Many Iraq soldier are poorly motivated and on sight combat performance are poor but with attack drone. No sight of fear and death. They are able to strike at fearless ISIS soldier with ease and speed. It demoralise ISIS and killed many of them without Iraq soldier casualty.

Read my comment again, instead of just ignoring what I said and posting whatever you feel like.

I read but it you stubborn refuse to accept my facts. The so called attack aircraft is not able to carry out fast response attack and their endurance is limited. Modern UCAV can loiter in the air and strike immediately when required with many ammunition carry.

Already addressed the point, so no, you didn't read my comment. If you did, you wouldn't have repeated a point that I already addressed.

This isn't about being stubborn, it's about reality. What you've said isn't factual, it's just your own personal opinion.

You stubbornly avoid my point. You claim manned attack aircraft can do what unmanned strike aircraft do which is false. Manned Strike aircraft only response when called upon to attack. They can hardly loiter and their endurance is very limited. Unmanned unlike old fashion tradition manned aircraft. Called upon immediately to attack when necessary. They can loiter and surveillance and if operator is tired. They can be easily replaced with a fresh human operator. This is something impossible with manned. The cost and ease of unmanned greatly enhance operation and allow Iraq armed forces to do the impossible against ISIS.

I did not. Once again re-read my comment.

Once again, already addressed this exact point.

A single tool didn't turn the tide in Iraq, and if you believe it did, than you have zero understanding of the war in iraq, or even war in general.

I will repeat my main point one final time; The current generation of drones are affective against militants, NOT actual militaries. Real militaries can and have shot down such drones quite easily.

The next gen drones, powered by jet propulsion, going at mach 1.5 to 2 will be a game changer, because actual legitimate militaries will be hard pressed to shoot then down, without investing significant time and effort.
