Comparing is a hard task. Single numbers are even harder to use. Ultimately, it is hard to capture something as complex as an economy in a single number.

Comparison isn't hard, but tricky. Depending on what you intend to be served by comparison, if you want to feel more confidence, use a way to underestimate the opponent. If you want to energize yourself in competition, overestimate the opponent. Comparison never gives you the reality but it can serve a purpose. For people who are absorbed in their own work, it is seldom needed.

Its not that hard to see. During first decade of 2000 China's economy grew extremely fast. Now it is bigger so smaller growth rate still produces larger absolute growth. That said, for India to achieve GDP parity, it needs to either grow very fast for a decade or so or need to grow faster than china for a much long time -- like 50-60 years.

China has a parity with US already. China produces more Iron and Steel, more goods and services compared to US.

I guess task in front of China is more on the lines of climbing the value chain. To make more money out of investments, R&D etc as compared to manufacturing or services. It will translate into better lives for Chinese. More Chinese will be fund manager or world class researchers compared to USA.

Never underestimate anyone. 30 years ago, nobody believed that China could achieve what she has achieved 30 years later, including Chinese. China has been truly blessed during this period. But God is fair. Every country gets its fair share of blessing. Just a matter of time.

From 1949 - 1975 you had the same political system which you did from 1978 onwards till date .The very system which threw up a Mao threw up a Deng .I really don't need to go into your history before the economic reforms initiated by Deng save to remind you that your leader Xi now enjoys the same kind of power that only Mao did at his zenith .
