Beijing’s plan to make its own commercial aircraft to break up the duopoly of Boeing and Airbus remains a costly pipe dream, according to a Washington-based think tank.

While Beijing has pumped at least US$45 billion into the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac) to make commercial planes, including the C919 passenger jet, the odds that China can make the project a success “are between slim and none”, said Scott Kennedy, a senior adviser at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies who is responsible for the research.

No one takes western think tanks seriously as they're funded by lobbyists from companies like Airbus and Boeing.

COMAC will break up western duopoly in China, the biggest global market for commercial planes, before anywhere else. This can reasonably happen within the next decade.

For years the Bipoly of Airbus and Boeing has remained, it will be difficult for consumers to buy aircraft from someone else except these two as they have a clean brand image. It can be used for domestic use though but it is difficult to export or export to Pakistan will be easy.

Cnese dont even trust their own car ( mainly use German, JP cars), tell them to use CN jet is just a cheap joke :lol:

I briefly tested the simulator for COMAC C919. Not very impressed, felt a lot like a cockpit mix-up of the A320 and B737 Max. Literally they switched the APU GEN and EXT PWR switches.

Sure Sure, everyone is standing in line to buy 737 MAX.
Maybe not the 737 max, but other models? Definitely.

In fact, both Boeing and Airbus have massive backlogs that will take years to deliver.

On the other hand, the C919 still doesn't seem to be ready.

Chinese commercial aircrafts will eventually become a threat to Boeing and Airbus, but as of now and the near future, China isn't ready to compete.

Boeing reputation and FAA are already tarnished. Clean Brand Imagine? U must be joking... Greed above human lives.


I rather take a made in China ARJ-21 and C919 than US flying coffin.
