I am focusing on China's tech companies. Banks, insurance companies, real estate companies, etc. are excluded from this list.

Here's my pick of China's Top 50 technology companies. Many of China's largest military contractors, such as NORINCO, are missing. It's simply my personal preference to keep the spotlight on the civilian companies.

Hi Martian2, nice summary of Chinese (and Taiwanese) companies.

Just to improve your list, for year 2014, below is the financial statement for Tencent and Baidu.

Tencent: (year 2014)

Annual revenue: $12.899 Billion USD
Operating profit: $4.991 Billion USD
Net income : $3.904 Billion USD

Baidu (Year 2014)

Annual revenue: $7.906 Billion USD
Operating profit: $2.064 Billion USD
Net income : $2.125 Billion USD

one thing to note is that both companies expect to see those three values to increase about 30 percent or higher in year 2015 !

Quite a lot of them are IT giants! That's thrilling news!

ChemChina

I missed a whopper. When I have time, I'll peruse the Fortune Global 500 list and search for other large Chinese high-tech corporations that I might have overlooked.

"China National Chemical Corporation (commonly called ChemChina) is a Chinese chemical company in the product segments of agrochemicals, rubber products, chemical materials and specialty chemicals, industrial equipment, and petrochemical processing."

By the way, ChemChina is buying Pirelli for $7.7 billion.

20 years ago, none of them, no high-tech, no IT.
Now, we have a lot and we are pursuing more and more.

I already knew about Tencent, Xiomi, Alibaba, Lenovo & Huawei. They are really famous. I wonder if there are any Indian companies famous in China?

Indian anti-cancer drug in China is popular, cheap and good curative effect, but we don't know which company it comes from.

Indian anti-cancer drugs cheaper than China's, it's true. But illegal selling in China coz smuggling drugs ... anyways still many Chinese patients try to buy them on internet.

Yes this is a dilemma, hard to benefit both sides.

More billion-dollar Chinese tech companies

1. As Keel has mentioned, Hisense definitely belongs on the list. TCL and Hisense tend to go together. I remembered TCL, but couldn't recall Hisense.

2. China's DJI drone manufacturer will have one billion in revenue by the end of this year. DJI will make it onto the list for next year. Thanks to Bobsm for the newslink.

3. Another Chinese national champion is waiting in the wings. China is entering the DRAM business to compete against Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron.

I was about to post that consortium led by Summitview Capital ! What is your perspective on China entering DRAM market? Do you think China has a chance to compete against the competitors, given that the logic required for DRAM is considerably (or significantly) less than that of CPU or GPU.

Also, can you give us an update on the semiconductor industry? Like which companies are doing well or expected to do well over the next few years? I always appreciate your insight on this industry!

Everything is looking up for the Chinese semiconductor industry

I think it's a no-brainer that China will achieve a significant share of the DRAM market.

Summitview Capital is buying the designs for DDR-2, DDR-3, and SDRAM. The Chinese government can buy other memory designs as necessary.

China is the world's second largest economy and it can build an Airbus-type project in computer memory. Taiwan could not. Taiwan is a very small economy and subject to American implicit threats of anti-trust investigation. However, the Japanese and Koreans have privileged status and they are allowed to have keiretsus and chaebols.

Taiwan could never build a true DRAM competitor to Samsung. Samsung dominates the DRAM business, because it has scale. Samsung is 1/4 of the South Korean economy. Samsung has access to cheap capital, because insurance companies (and/or banks) are part of its chaebol network.

Taiwan's Nanya Technology (in DRAM) is a stand-alone company and could never compete against Samsung without a chaebol-like network. However, the American anti-trust laws prevent Taiwan from setting up a chaebol-like network for Nanya.

In contrast, China has the heft to develop its own computer memory industry. Also, China was exempt from some WTO rules as a developing nation. I think China is allowed to protect certain industries up to a point.

Since DRAM memory is a commodity business, the largest scale will prevail. This is similar to the old Fuji business model in camera film. China should be able to grow a huge DRAM company over the next ten years.

Regarding China's overall semiconductor industry, things are looking pretty good. SMIC will be producing at 28nm this year. HiSilicon has leading edge designs for telecom chips at 16nm already. Taiwan's UMC is in a joint venture to build a 12-inch fab in China. Chinese semiconductor design companies are scaling with China's economic growth. Companies like Spreadtrum have pushed past the billion-dollar mark and will keep growing larger.

IBM has changed its business model and opened up its entire architecture to Chinese server manufacturers. China's Suzhou is one of the first out the door with its own server line based on IBM's OpenPOWER server-chip design.

Everything is looking up for the Chinese semiconductor industry.
